Do not throw your boarding passes and baggage tags before leaving the airport Please do not leave your bags and luggage unsupervised at the airports (in any country) and disagree if somebody will ask you to help deliver a parcel to any of the destinations or take their bags to pass the customs check. CLIMATE: It is a tropical temperature climate in Vietnam, on the South, it will be hot and humid and in Central Vietnam, the weather will be comfortable. In Northern, Vietnam will be cooler (about 20-25 C degrees). It is humid here, so it could feel a bit colder. SAFETY: The political situation is stable, there are very low risks of terrorist attacks There is a chance of pickpocketing and bags snatching on the streets, especially from those who are on motorbikes. The situation with pick-pocketing in the North is better than in the South of Vietnam. Be careful when you are crossing the road, the traffic is chaotic and there are many drivers who do not follow the traffic rules. Please note the quality of tap water is not suitable for drinking, you should use bottled water. MONEY: The local currency is the Vietnamese dong (the exchange rate is about 14800 dongs for the NZ dollar) There are ATMs in bank offices, big hotels, and shopping malls The number of restaurants accepting credit cards is limited The price for a lunch/dinner per person is about 19 NZD in a medium price range café or restaurant. Tips are not necessary but welcome. (if you would like to leave tips the average amount is 3 USD per person per day for guide and driver (together), for group tours it could be less. When you are ordering meals in some restaurants pay attention to the menu, some restaurants include the prices without VAT tax (there is usually a note at the bottom of the menu if tax is not included in the price). Also, some expensive restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill.
