Gorilla tracking is an adventurous activity that involves moving through the thick and muddy paths in the jungles and therefore you need to be well prepared for the experience. Listed below is what you should carry for a gorilla trekking safari. 1. Hiking boots. Pack a pair of high quality hiking boots since the gorilla trekking activity involves hiking/climbing hilly areas within the forest and the paths may be muddy due to the unpredictable changing weather conditions. The hiking boots should be light and comfortable. 2. Clothing i) Water proof jacket/ Rain jacket. The tropical forests receive rain throughout the year, so you are advised to water proof jacket while packing for your safari. ii) Long sleeved shirt. The long sleeved shirt help to protect the skin from forest insects. iii) Trousers. Long water proof trousers are recommended since they can be tucked into the socks to avoid forest insects from getting in touch with the body. iv) Garden gloves. The garden gloves safeguard your hands from being pricked as you hold onto plants and tree branches during the gorilla tracking activity. 3. Water proof bag. The water proof bag keeps equipment safe from rain water or mist while in the forest. 4. Hat and sunglasses. For protection against the direct sunlight especially when tracking during the season. 5. A pair of binoculars. As you walk through the forest in search of the mountain gorillas, you may be able to catch sight of other wildlife species such as forest elephants, monkeys, a number of bird species. All these can be clearly seen with a pair of binoculars. 6. Camera with extra batteries. One of the important things not to forget on your pack list is a good camera and extra batteries so as to capture pictures of the gorillas and all the memories to be made while tracking. Please note that while capturing pictures of the gorillas, the camera flash light should be turned off so as not to agitate the gorillas. Having the proper clothing while preparing for a gorilla trekking safari is essential. This is because it eases the tracking activity while maximizing the most of the experience.

Uganda can be visited all year round. It depends on your personal preference when you want/can travel. Uganda has two seasons, the rainy season and the dry season. The dry season is in the months of December to February, June to July with less rain then the wet season in the months of September to November and March to May. During the long rainy season, one should take into account difficult paths in the park. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable national park is best done during the dry season when the forest paths are less slippery. During the gorilla trekking activity, certain rules and regulations should be followed and these include; 1. If you have a cold or an infectious disease, you are not allowed to visit the gorillas. 2. Only persons 15 years and above are allowed to participate in mountain gorilla tracking. 3. Human waste should be buried 30cm (12”) deep. 4. Only eight people are allowed to visit a gorilla group per day. 5. When you are with the gorillas/ In the presence of the mountain gorillas, maintain a distance of 7m from the mountain gorillas while in their presence. 6. While tracking the mountain gorillas, eating, drinking and smoking is not allowed. 7. In the moment when you want to sneeze or cough, make sure to turn away from the mountain gorillas or cover your face as human diseases can easily be transmitted to the mountain gorillas. 8. When you encounter the mountain gorillas, you are limited to one hour watching them go about their daily life. 9. Do not use flash photography while capturing moments with the mountain gorillas. 10. Do not litter the forest/jungle as you participate in the gorilla tracking activity. 11. Do not pick flowers or destroy any vegetation.
