Alma Brasileira : From Rio to Costa Verde

18 days

Trip Snapshot

Here you go for 18 days of immersion in the life of the cariocas, the inhabitants of Rio, and of the Caiçara, the fishing communities living in the Costa verde coast. You will discover their way of life by sharing with them simple moments of everyday life but rich in encounters and human kindness. The relaxed Brazilian way of life leaves room for the unexpected and your trip will do the same. The first part of your trip begins in Rio de Janeiro, nicknamed by its inhabitants "the wonderful city". The Cariocas love their city and don't hesitate to let others know. You will take the time to immerse in the local culture, at the rythm of Samba, Bossa Nova and Capoeira, and to explore the natural surroundings. What better way to discover the true identity of this city that blends cultural diversity and breathtaking natural landscapes? In the Costa Verde, you are welcomed in Paraty by Luc and Luiza. This Franco-Brazilian couple has fallen in love with the cultural mix and the green landscapes of this small colonial village and its region which they will be happy to make you discover. Away from the city you will find yourself in the heart of the Joatinga Nature Reserve where Alessandra and her family will show you the unchanged lifestyle of the Caiçara fishermen, this ethnic group born from the mix of Tupinambas Indians, blacks Africans and European colons. You will embark on small boats to fish for dinner, visit the village's manioc farm and discover the human richness of this touching community. The last stage of your trip is aboard a fishing boat specially arranged for the occasion by Daniel, he sleeps on deck but has arranged a simple and comfortable cabin for you. Here you go for a unique experience towards the Saco do Mamangua, a tropical fjord in the heart of the mountains covered with mata Atlantica and habitat of a rich and diversified ecosystem. Beach, swimming, kayaking, hiking and sharing life stories will rhythm your days.
