Trekking Across the Pamirs: Trans-Alay Range & the Fann Mountains

20 days

Trip Snapshot

This route combines trekking intwo regions of the Pamirs, each with its own unique landscapes, atmosphere, and cultural heritage: the high-altitude Chon-Alay ("Big Alay"), located at the foot of Lenin Peak (7134 m) in Kyrgyzstan, and the breathtaking Fann Mountains of Tajikistan. Travelers will experience spectacular mountain panoramas, glaciers and high passes, turquoise alpine lakes, ancient cities, and vibrant Silk Road bazaars. The journey begins in Osh, where we head to Kyrgyz-Ata National Park – a green valley with pastures, waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs. From there, we follow the scenic Pamir Highway to Edelweiss Meadow, where we stay in a comfortable yurt camp surrounded by stunning high-altitude landscapes. Daily hikes will take us to glaciers, moraines, mountain rivers, and the pristine turquoise waters of Tulpar-Kol Lake. We will also ascend to Puteshestvennikov (Travelers’) Pass (4150 m) and the ridge of Petrovskiy Peak (4100 m), offering breathtaking panoramic views. The next highlight is the approach to the majestic North Face of Lenin Peak (7134 m), where we will spend a couple of nights at Solnechniy Camp (4400 m) before making a non-technical ascent of Yukhin Peak (5130 m). The route requires no prior mountaineering experience or special equipment, as there are no steep ice or rock sections. From the summit, we will enjoy an unparalleled view of the vast Alay Valley and the snow-covered slopes of Lenin Peak. After returning to Osh, we continue into Uzbekistan, where we explore impressive medieval architecture, indulge in flavorful plov, and immerse ourselves in the bustling atmosphere of Silk Road markets. The final stage of the journey takes us into the Fann Mountains, one of the most spectacular regions of the Pamir-Alay. Here, we will hike through towering five-thousand-meter peaks, sheer rock walls, sparkling glaciers, crystal-clear lakes, deep gorges, and dramatic high mountain passes. The adventure concludes in Samarkand, the legendary
