East Coast Exploration
This escapade will feature the east coast and (wild) Atlantic side of Dominica. This side of the island has traditionally been agricultural and is deeply rooted in culture. Your day of exploration provide options for visiting the deep south east belt and ends at Delices with swimming in the White River, and an opportunity for an up-river exploration to the Victoria Waterfall. Alternatively you can venture through the rural communities spanning Tranto to Petite Soufriere and discover Dominica’s true natural beauty. From Petite Soufriere there is the option for a 2 hour hike along the east coast with opportunities to enjoy fantastic views of the roaring Atlantic and the rugged landscapes. Depending on the time of year, and the accommodation, there may be opportunities for turtle watching or turtle excavation – as Leatherback, Green and Hawksbill sea turtles nest and hatch along eastern beach fronts. These endangered gentle giants can travel great distances, as far away as Canada, Europe and Africa, to Dominica to nest on our protected black sand beach. Turtle season offers a vacation experience that is unforgettable and simply magical.

Roseau Valley + evening Cooking with Daria
Today’s adventure will lead you through Dominica’s un-spoilt nature with opportunities for viewing stunning landforms within the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site. It will end with the culinary feast! First we head up to the village of Laudat, better known for the lakes and gorges, and we visit the Fresh Water Lake. This lake sits in the backdrop of the greenery and mist, and is kept cool by the crisp, clean mountain breeze. At this serene location there are opportunities for quiet time and photography, and exploration and discovery. From here we head down to the village of Trafalgar for a visit to the Trafalgar Waterfalls to enjoy the twin majestic waterfalls, and to see wild nature at its best. Next we continue onto the Wotten Waven Sulphur Springs for a quick peek of the geysers and steam caves that this small village is well known for. Once done, another short transfer will take us into the upper reaches of this village to a nature sanctuary where fruit trees, tweeting birds, tropical blooms, flowing streams, waterfall, mud pool, (hot) therapeutic sulphur water tubs, and cool water streams for rejuvenating abound. Plan to spend some time in the hot therapeutic waters of the local spa. Lose yourself in this paradise on earth…..…..rejuvenate and re-charge. Lunch is at a local village restaurant. The adventures continue a few hours later once you have had a chance to refresh at your hotel. This time you head out for an authentic hands-on culinary class at a local family home. Have fun while we share our colorful stories served with a helping or two of herb infused rum. Cook in our purpose built kitchen set amid lush tropical gardens and enjoy great views. Learn how herbs and fresh organic products are used in Caribbean cuisine as you experience a slice of local life. A food and family lifestyle experience much lauded by experts, Cooking with Daria is unique, sassy, and great tasting.

Portsmouth and the north Coast
Today you explore the Northern part of Dominica for a lesson on our islands natural and cultural heritage. Our first stop will be the Syndicate Nature Reserve, for a chance to enjoy an area of rain forest which was damaged by Hurricane Maria in September 2017. With luck you might see the Amazon parrots, the Jaco and the Sisserou. Once done, we continue on to Portsmouth, stopping at the Indian River. There you board your boat for an up-river rowing expedition. Glide through the mangroves and wetlands of this brackish river with your personal guide who will tell you everything about the incredible flora and fauna en route. For bird watchers or nature-lovers this boat-trip is perfect. Colorful blooms, crabs, fish, birds, and iguanas punctuate the tranquil journey. This peaceful ride is guaranteed to rejuvenate your senses and relax you! The tour has 2 main highlights – a stop at the local bar at the top of the river for a refreshing drink, and a visit to the House of Calypso, the Old Witch from the Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Movie. The house sits along the banks of the river where parts of the movie were filmed more than 10 years ago. Once back at the loading dock, we continue onto the Cabrits National Park to explore the ruins at Fort Shirley - an 18th- century British garrison which once housed 600 soldiers and which provides important examples of 18th century defense systems. This large stone fort has its own history and the site provides for walking along the old forest trails and enjoying excellent panoramic viewing of Prince Rupert Bay and surroundings. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. Next, we continue further north and into the foothills of Morne Aux Diables for visits to the Cold Soufriere Waterfall. The cold Soufriere features cold bubbling sulphur pools – the only of its kind in the entire world. Very distinct and spectacular landforms, these natural wonders are perfect explanations why Dominica is indeed the Nature Island of the Caribbean.
