Latrabjarg, Raudasandur & Southern Westfjords
Highlights • Latrabjarg bird cliffs with a variety of birds including the puffins • Raudasandur red-sand beach and seal colony • Golden-sand beaches of Breidavik and Orlygshofn The Southern Westfjords are famous for some of the most stunning light-coloured beaches in Iceland. The most popular of these is the red-hued Raudasandur, also home to a colony of seals. The Latrabjarg cliffs are the westernmost point of Iceland. In the summer, they offer fantastic opportunities for bird watching and are considered the best place in Iceland to photograph puffins up close. Northern Strandir
Highlights • Exhibition at the Djupavik herring factory • Nordurfjordur village and the Krossneslaug pool • Munadarnes farm with breathtaking fjord and mountain views • Optional: Reykjaneshyrna mountain hike Strandir is sparsely populated, with just 50 inhabitants, and very remote. The coastal road to the northern villages is well off the beaten path and dotted with panoramic inlets, scenic waterfalls and driftwood beaches. At the end of the road, the Munadarnes farm has breathtaking views of the abandoned fjords and the Drangaskord peaked ridge on the horizon.
