Wild Horse Safari
Leave Ulaanbaatar early morning with your tour leader and driver. Travel into the countryside, and see the landscape change from valley to steppe, a magical winter wonderland. Enter Khustai National Park to start your ranger led off-road safari to find the Przewalski's Horse. Considered to be the world’s only remaining truly wild horses, these are known as the ancestors of the modern day horse. You are welcome to hike in the area, to explore the diverse environment the National Park has to offer. Spot the steppe eagle, corsac fox and perhaps even elusive herds of red deer. Make the most of your time in the wilderness; in a secluded spot enjoy a wild BBQ and warming camp fire. Continue onto Bayangobi, an area with a completely unique ecology, with mountains, sand dunes and freshwater marshlands, frozen during winter. Explore the 80km long sand dunes and beautiful surrounding area. Who can climb to the top of the sand dunes? Meet our friends, a nomadic family, who make their living from their animals; horses, goats, sheep, cows and even camels. Mount up for a camel ride through the sand dunes! This evening join your host family for a meal. Learn how to make traditional steamed dumplings and enjoy them together. This is a great way to get to know your host family.

Explore Mountains and Desert
Join your host family for breakfast. Freshly made flat-bread, local jam and creamy milk tea. Or a freshly brewed coffee if you prefer. Drive to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital city of the Mongol Empire. It is now the site of the largest Buddhist Monastery in Mongolia, Erdene Zuu. Visit the Kharkhorin museum and explore the monastery. You can also see the iconic Three Empires Monument, with a bird's eye view of the Orkhon valley, where three empires are said to have come together to become one. Return east after lunch to the Khogno Khan National Park for a hike up to the hidden Ovgon Monastery ruins. Explore the mountains, walking through the unique juniper shrubs and search for wildlife such as steppe eagle and red deer. If a hike is not your cup of tea, then perhaps explore the smaller ruins at the bottom of the mountain, and talk to the female monks who have been in charge of this tiny temple for generations. Or if you like go for another camel ride! Tonight, if the sky is clear, try some star gazing. Mongolia’s dry atmosphere produces some of the world’s best night sky scenes.

A Day of Adventure
Start out early. Drive to the majestic Turtle Rock and visit the Aryabal Meditation Temple for a peaceful walk up into the mountain. Find your fortune on the buddhist path and marvel at the spectacular view over the National Park. Head deeper into the protected zone, crossing the frozen river, winding your way between the mountains. This landscape is similar to the Northern Mongolian “Taiga” and is rich in flora and fauna. Meet your enthusiastic huskies for your afternoons adventure. Have a short lesson in dog sledding before enjoying a traditional BBQ lunch. Now drive your own team of huskies through the wintery tundra. After 3-4 hours of adrenaline infused fun head to your host family’s ger to have a well earned rest and tasty dinner. Travel Back to the 13th Century
Today meet your sturdy Mongolian horses. Set out with your host as a guide on horseback. Cross over the mountains and through valleys, following a route that Chinggis Khan may once have travelled. The wintery landscape is beautiful and stretches out as far as the eye can see. Arrive in the Tsonjin Boldog valley, where the impressive Chinggis Khan Equestrian Statue dominates the landscape. Visit the 13th Century Complex, a living museum to witness the intriguing way of life during the Mongol Empire. Here visit the Kings Camp, Craft Camp and even a 13th century style mobile library. The residents live with no electricity or modern conveniences year round, just as the people did in the 13th century. The backdrop to this fascinating relic is equally impressive, with a scattering of magma plumes over the steppe, making the scenery unearthly and well worth a few photos. Arrive back into Ulaanbaatar in time for dinner. Join us at one of our favourite restaurants for a farewell dinner.
