Trekking National Park and Canoeing
After breakfast pick up from the hotel to start this amazing adventure. After covering the 10 km from Ushuaia to Tierra del Fuego National Park, this tour visits its most relevant attractions. On foot, and in contact with Nature, along the undulating 8-km-long Coastal Path, this medium-difficulty hike should not pose a big challenge to those passengers used to exercise, and with the appropriate attire. Those who prefer a less demanding activity may choose to walk along a few shorter, and softer trails (please request the “Soft Trekk” option in advance). Near to the border of Lapataia River, lunch will be served with a great panoramic view from inside a heated dome-tent, to avoid wind or rain. Afterwards, all participants will be equipped with rubber boots, coverpants and lifejackets: the excursion will continue from Lake Acigami aboard inflatable canoes (duckies) for about an hour through the fresh water of the Lapataia and Ovando rivers until reaching the sea in Lapataia Bay. This canoe activity ends near the point where Route 3 (also called Pan-American Highway) meet its southern end. After the departure from the hotel the tour goes through a glacial valley surrounded by snowy peaks up to the first stop at Garibaldi pass: the only road crossing the Fuegian Andes range. From here, high up the Andes Range, it is beautiful to see Lake Escondido, a small wonder at the bottom of the valley. Near the north end of Lake Escondido, and after leaving the paved road behind, the itinerary continues along a series of old paths that a sawmill opened in the forest, impassable for conventional vehicles, to approach Lake Fagnano, the fifth largest in Argentina. In the forest near the Fagnano coast there will be free time to walk and enjoy the place, while the guide prepares an abundant meal to be enjoyed comfortably in an exclusive refuge located in a natural environment, away from the noise of modern life. Hiking: Optional: easy. 15 minutes. Cumulative elevation gain: - Altitude gain: - Distance covered: 700 meters. Basic, recommended attire: trekking boots, waterproof jacket, warm clothing. Gable Island & Penguin Colony + Estancia Harberton
This program is a beautiful journey into the almost uninhabited, peaceful location of the first "estancia" in Tierra del Fuego: Harberton Ranch. This full-day, active tour takes passengers for a ride, to navigate, to walk and to make discoveries in one of the roughest and most beautiful places in the Beagle Channel. From the hotel, we leave Ushuaia Eastbound along National Route No. 3 and Route "J". Once at Harberton Ranch we propose to visit the Marine Mammal Museum, and the surroundings of one of the first white men settlements in Tierra del Fuego. On board a motorboat we will leave towards Martillo Island. From the boat, we'll have the chance to see penguins in their breeding lair. Navigation on the motorboat continues up to the main attraction of the day: the enormous Gable Island, where lunch with a good Patagonian wine, soft drink and mineral water awaits. After coffee, we’ll go for a hike to know more abut this gorgeous island, crossing over beaver dams and through the forest to reach the Beagle Channel shore. Beagle Channel Navigation
Pick up from the hotel to the pier. We will enjoy a catamaran sailing through the historic and challenging Beagle Channel, the cradle of innumerable historical shipwrecks in these icy waters south of the Strait of Magellan. One of the objectives will be to obtain the typical postcard with the lighthouse behind us. We sailed from the local tourist dock crossing the wide Ushuaia Bay, observing from another perspective the profile of the city of Ushuaia and the geographic distribution at the foot of the Andes Mountain Range; until reaching the Beagle Channel through Paso Chico. There we sailed around the Isla de los Pájaros where we appreciate the birds of Tierra del Fuego watching Skuas, Black-browed Albatrosses, Steam Ducks, Cauquenes, Cook Seagulls and Gray Seagulls; and of the Isla de los Lobos where we can observe specimens of sea lions of one and two hairs. Both islands belong to the Bridges archipelago. When arriving at the Lighthouse Les Eclaireurs (The Illuminators or also the badly called colloquially the Lighthouse of the End of the World), we will be able to appreciate the colonies of Imperial Cormorants and Rocky Cormorants (of aspect similar to the penguins but of different species); and also listen to the story of the collapse of the SS Monte Cervantes that he starred in in 1930. At the end of the journey you will be amazed by the view of the mountain range that surrounds the city of Ushuaia and its sumptuous nature that surrounds it. It is a tour of great historical and scenic value that we carry out, visiting privileged and interesting points along the entire trip, which you can discover by navigating the waters of the Beagle Channel. In a pleasant and calm route.
