Afterwards you will experience a boat trip (depending on the water level), before you continue your journey with the drive to Sigiriya. The gneiss rock Sigiriya, which suddenly rises from the jungle, is the most popular historical site in Sri Lanka. The 200-meter-high peak was the place where the citadel of King Kashyapa was located in the 5th century. The name of the rock is derived from its form: it should resemble a lying lion. Some niches of the rock were decorated Kashyapa with colourful frescoes. These frescoes are world famous for their amazing beauty. Halfway up is the entrance to the citadel, flanked by two lion's paws. Today, Sigiriya is one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, and is one of the best examples of ancient urban planning in Sri Lanka
