Discovering the Sacred Valley's Incan Wonders
Today, your Peruvian adventure takes you into the fertile heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Your exploration begins with a pause at El Mirador, a scenic overlook providing a panoramic view of the valley—an ancient landscape once vital to Incan prosperity due to its favourable climate and nourishing soil. As you gaze upon the vast terraces and irrigation channels carved into the mountainsides, our guide will share insights into Incan history and ensure you capture the perfect snapshots of this majestic scenery.
Progressing deeper into the valley, your next stop is the archaeological treasure of Pisac. Here, amidst the impressive stone work and expansive agricultural terraces, you'll delve into various facets of Incan culture. Afterward, meander through the bustling Pisac market where textiles burst with colour, local flavours tempt the palate, and traditional attire offers a tangible connection to indigenous legacies—ideal for those seeking authentic souvenirs.
Your journey continues downstream, paralleling the gracious Urubamba River, to reach the historically-rich town of Ollantaytambo. Famed for its intricate Incan urban planning and as the backdrop for one of the few Incan victories against the Spanish, Ollantaytambo's ruins stand as a formidable testament to Incan construction and spiritual reverence, underscored by the remarkable mountain visages said to honour Wiracocha.
Retreat back to Cusco, armed with a wealth of knowledge and cherished memories, to ready yourself for the next challenging phase: the Inca Trail. This afternoon, you'll attend a mandatory trek briefing, providing essential details on the route, guidance on what to pack, finalizing your pick-up service, and answering all your queries to set the stage for your upcoming trek.

Trek to Wayllabamba Camp (2,980m) via Ollantaytambo
Accommodation pick-up is between 05:00 - 06:00 hrs. Please make all of the necessary preparations one day prior to the trek. You will be taken by bus to the town of Ollantaytambo, where you will have an hour to eat breakfast on your own and purchase last-minute snacks, water and walking sticks.
Then you will hop back on the bus to Piscacucho (KM 82) where the famous Inca Trail journey will begin. Bring your original passport, student card (if applicable) for the first Inca Trail checkpoint. Your guide will have your tickets for you. Hike along rolling hills in the Vilcanota River Valley passing by several small archaeological sites along the way. Lunch will be prepared half-way, and you will have time to relax before reaching Wayllabamba camp (2,980m).
Trekking: 10 kilometres/6 hours.
Difficulty: Moderate trek along a rolling path gradually ascending from Piscacucho KM 82 (2,570m) through the Urubamba river valley for 10 KM to reach Wayllabamba Camp (2,980m).
NOTE: You will have a guide during the trek and on the Machu Picchu tour. However, during your bus and train transfers, you will not be accompanied by a guide.

Conquering Dead Woman's Pass to Pacaymayo Camp
The dawn of day 5 signals the commencement of your ascent to the highest point of the Inca Trail. Fuel up with an early breakfast at 6:00hrs before tackling a challenging 6 km vertical climb to the renowned Dead Woman's Pass, reaching an altitude of 4,215m. It's a tough journey, estimated to take approximately 5 hours, so take it at your own pace and remember to rest as needed while you conquer over 1,200 meters in elevation.
Upon summiting Dead Woman's Pass, you will be greeted with awe-inspiring vistas of snow-clad mountain summits and the distant echo of waterfalls—a just reward for your efforts. The trek doesn't end there, however; a 3 km descent on ancient stone steps leads you to your resting place for the night, Pacaymayo Camp, at an altitude of 3,600m, around 2 hours away.
Rehitting the camp, look forward to a well-timed lunch and the chance to indulge in a recuperative nap. The remainder of your afternoon is free to relax amid the tranquil highland panorama or to share experiences with fellow trekkers as anticipation for the next stage of the trail builds. After enjoying dinner, an early night’s rest will allow you to recharge for the adventure that awaits the following day.
Today's 10-kilometer trek covers approximately 7 hours, characterized by challenging elevations and rewarding descents, demonstrating the true spirit of this ancient pathway.

The sixth day of your Peruvian sojourn invites you to continue your Inca Trail trek, graced by both the allure of history and the beauty of nature. Commence with an uphill hike from Pacaymayo Camp to the archeological site of Pacaymayo, where you'll spend the first hour of your morning immersed in the whispers of the past.
The trail then leads you to Runquracay Pass, located at 3,950m. Ascend to the pass's peak, allowing roughly an hour to reach it, where you will be lavished with impressive vistas of the emerald Andean crests. Your historical exploration doesn’t pause here; next on your itinerary are two captivating archaeological sites—Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca—each offering a unique window into the lives of the ancient Incas.
As you journey on, take a delightful lunch break amidst these extraordinary settings, savoring both the local flavors and the magnificent views. By late afternoon, your trek culminates at the Wiñayhuayna High Jungle Camp which sits at an altitude of 2,650m. Here, amid a rich high jungle ecosystem and overlooking a picturesque river valley, you'll find the perfect environment to unwind and collect your thoughts.
As dusk embraces the campsite, enjoy a convivial dinner and express heartfelt gratitude to the diligent porters and guides who have supported your journey thus far. Today’s path covers a distance of 15 kilometers over 9 hours, navigating moderate elevations across the trail's ancient stairways while interspersing moments of beauty and history that enrich this remarkable trek.

Sunrise at Sun Gate & Machu Picchu Exploration Before Returning to Cusco
An early awakening beckons as you rise between 3:30 and 4:30hrs to fuel up with breakfast before embarking on one of the most anticipated moments of the Inca Trail. Assemble at the Wiñayhuayna checkpoint and join the early risers eagerly awaiting entry at 5:30 am. Once through the gates, a one-hour trek leads you to the Sun Gate (Intipunku), and with fortune smiling upon you, you’ll be privy to the spectacular sunrise over the iconic Machu Picchu - a moment that will be etched in your memory forever.
After witnessing the dawn's illumination of the ancient city, a 40-minute descent takes you to the heart of Machu Picchu itself. Here, you'll be treated to a comprehensive 2-hour guided tour, unveiling the mystique of this world wonder and providing context to its historical significance.
With the formal tour concluded, seize the opportunity for personal exploration—capture photographs, absorb the majestic ambiance, and if you're feeling particularly bold, consider the optional hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for an elevated perspective of the citadel and beyond (subject to advance booking due to limited availability).
The return journey to Cusco commences from Aguas Calientes aboard a train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus trip that reconnects you with the spirited city of Cusco by 8:30 pm. Disembarking at Plaza San Francisco, the final leg of today’s adventure is a leisurely return to your chosen accommodation.
Optional Activities: You have the choice to amplify your Machu Picchu experience by ascending Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, should you desire a more challenging hike with breathtaking views. Vilcanota River Rafting, Zip-Line and Transfer to Puerto Maldonado
Ready yourself for an exhilarating start at 8:30 hrs as you venture to the Vilcanota River banks, setting the stage for a day pulsating with adventure. Engage in a white-water rafting journey through vivacious Class III, III+, and IV rapids, each wave introducing a rush of adrenaline. Complete your aquatic conquest with the invigorating thrill of a zip-line experience. Please ensure you bring a full change of clothes, water-friendly garments for wearing beneath the neoprene suit, river-appropriate footwear, sunscreen, and a compact towel for convenience.

Your day begins with pickup from your Cusco accommodation between 8:30 - 9:00 am, following a short drive to Oropesa. This charming Andean community is celebrated for its freshly baked bread, of which you'll have the pleasure to sample as part of your lunch. Post-refreshment, you'll be briefed on safety by your professional rafting guide and set out onto the Vilcanota River's inviting waters, where the Andean landscape forms a breathtaking backdrop to your escapade.
Following your rafting adventure, you’ll enjoy a restful lunch break at camp, where you can change into dry attire. Seize the opportunity to dive into two additional courses of zip-line action. The journey winds down with a relaxing drive back to Cusco, dropping you off in the city centre, where the day's exhilarating experiences can be contemplated leisurely.

Arrival and Immersion into the Amazon Jungle
As dawn breaks on day 10, find yourself arriving in Puerto Maldonado around 7:00 am, the gateway to your Amazon rainforest adventure. The vibrant sounds and colours of the jungle will greet you as the lodge staff assists you in prepping for the deep forest exploration. Pack essentials into a smaller duffle bag, safely store your remaining luggage, and begin the first leg of your journey to the eco-lodge by private vehicle.
From the edge of the water, embark on a motorized canoe voyage that will take you through the serpentine waterways, piercing the heart of the jungle. Depending on the secluded location of your eco-lodge within the lush confines of the Madre de Dios region, this journey could span anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. A packed lunch will be provided en route to enjoy along the rippling river.
Upon your arrival, settle into the natural harmony of your thatched-roof lodge. An introductory walk and briefing will acquaint you with the vibrant ecosystem that will be your home for the next few days. Here, at around 9:00 pm, you'll settle in for the overnight journey back to the vibrant city of Cusco.
