place From Buenos Aires to Comodoro Rivadavia (B/-/-)

Private transfer to Buenos Aires domestic airport for a flight to Comodoro Rivadavia. Welcome to Patagonia. Your guide will wait for you at the airport for a private transfer to Los Antiguos, through the vast Patagonian plateau. On the way, you will visit a petrified forest called Sarmiento. This provincial natural monument is from the Cenozoic era and dated to around 65 million years ago. These petrified trees, witnesses to prehistoric times, form a landscape of indescribable beauty, characterized by the hardness of the rocks, the color of the different geological layers and the silence of respect for nature. The petrified logs are the result of the effect of these millions of years on the wood. At the start of the Tertiary era, the Andes mountain range rose, preventing the passage of moisture from the Pacific. At the same time, there were eruptions, the sediment of which spread and began a slow process of turning these logs into stone. Arrival in Los Antiguos. Distance: from Comodoro Rivadavia to Los Antiguos through Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento: 482 km, around 6 hs (not counting the visit of the Bosque).

On-site, you will navigate on General Carrera Lake (or Lake Buenos Aires in its Argentinian part), one of the largest lakes in South America (1850 km2). The geology of its coasts is very varied, and includes, among other things, a base dating from the Paleozoic. The road to Zeballos is parallel to the famous road 40, and was created at the beginning of the last century as an old border road to communicate the region of Los Antiguos with the Estancias located to the south. Today it is a fascinating setting because of its geology (you will be perplexed in front of the arsenic cones or even in front of the huge petrified trunks!) and its changing landscapes. You will appreciate the diversity of its fauna like nowhere elsewhere in Patagonia. This place offers the possibility to observe flora and fauna of the region: condors, South Andean deers and “choiques” (rheas), for example. This picturesque route is known to be the highest road in Patagonia and crosses four distinct environments: steppe, Andean forest, high meadows and mountains. You will enjoy a view over the impressive Monte San Lorenzo (3706 m). Almost guaranteed observation of condors, trekking between dykes, basalt sandstone formations and simple contemplation of the landscape which changes with the seasons.
