Airport transfer to our Eco Lodge at Tungina, which is located 30 minutes’ drive from the airport. Dinner and overnight at the eco-camp.

Aboku Nature Reserve and Kotu Creek
Pick up after breakfast, to drive to Abuko Nature reserve. Bird watching until 12.30, with lunch at the nearby Lamin Lodge. In the afternoon we drive to the Kotu area, for birdwatching on the rice fields, ponds, and the golf course. Dinner is served. Abuko Nature Reserve is a managed reserve of remnant rain forest around a small pond that has good water levels all year. The bird list of about 200 species includes Eagle Owl, Night Heron, Giant Kingfisher and most of the other Kingfishers, Violet and Green Turaco and Paradise Flycatcher

Tugereng, Tanji and Brufut
Today, we travel to Tujereng Woodland, a great site to view woodland birds. It is an area of open land with scattered trees and farmland. Species we expect to see here include White-Fronted Black-Chat, Chestnut Crowned Sparrow-Weaver, Senegal Batis, Brubru, Vitaline Mask Weaver, Stripe Kingfisher, Woodpeckers, Sunbirds, Starlings, and Cisticolars. Afterward, we drive 15 minutes to Tanji for birdwatching and lunch After lunch, it’s another short drive to Brufut Woodland, where we hope to see species such as Verreaux’s Eagle Owl, White Face Scope Owl, Long Tail Night Jar, Finches, Honey Guide, Shrikes, Flycatcher, Waxbills, etc.

Kartong and Marakissa
Today, we travel to Kartong, close to the southern border with Senegal. Here we can expect to see White Face Whistling Duck, African Pigmy Goose, White Fronted Plover, Osprey, Snipes, Swamp Hens, Gray Headed Kingfisher, Herons, Bee-eaters, Spur Wing Goose, and lots more waders. We take our lunch break at Marakissa, then it’s time for bird watching in the riverside gallery forest, where we hope to see White-Breasted Cuckoo Shrike, Yellow-billed Hyliota, White Crested Helmet Shrike, Lizard Buzzards, Sunbirds, Bishops, Weavers, and others.

Niumi National Park and Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve
It’s an early start today, as we catch the Banju Barra ferry and begin our journey along with the North Bank. Our first stop is in Niumi National Park, an area of wetlands. Then we carry on to our destination today, Morgan Kunda Lodge in Jarjari Village, situated in the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve. After checking in at Morgan Kunda, and lunch there, we will view birds in the woodlands and wetlands of the Reserve, completing our day with an evening boat trip on the Bolong. Species we might see on the North Bank include: Carmine Bee-eaters, Red-Throated Bee-Eaters, African Pigmy Goose, Cinnamon Breasted Bunting, Spotted Thick-knee , Temmick Courser, Savule’s Bustard, Egyptian Plover, Kingfishers, Herons, Nightjars, Rollers, Weavers, Woodpeckers, Cisticolas, Waxbills, Ground Hornbills, Adamawa Turtle, Doves, Swallows, Swifts, Anteater Chat, Brown Necked Parrot, Black Wood Hoopoe, Verreaux's Eagle Owl, Swamp flycatchers, Marabou stock, Brubru, White Shouldered Black Tit, Goliath Heron, White Back Night Heron Vultures, Falcons, Eagles, Buzzards, and other raptors.

Bao Bolong Wetlands - Georgetown
After breakfast, we start our journey towards Janjanbureh/Georgetown. On the way, we’ll stop at Njawara Village, where, depending on the season, we may be lucky enough to spot the Egyptian Plover and other migrant birds. We stop for lunch at Kuntaur, then take a boat from here through the River Gambia National Park. The islands of the National Park are home to rescued Chimpanzees, but we can also expect to see Hippopotamuses in the river, as well as baboons, reptiles, and birds.

Georgetown – Wassadou (Senegal)
After breakfast we head further east, still on the North Bank of the River Gambia, crossing onto the South Bank of the River Gambia at Basse Santu Su. From here, we travel south, crossing into Senegal and continuing to Wassadou. In the evening we have a boat trip.

We spend the whole day at Wassadou, birdwatching around the hotel before breakfast and, later, birdwatching along the bush tracks.

Wassadou – Niokolo-Koba
After breakfast, we drive to the Niokolo-Koba National Park. Once we’re there, we’ll spend the day enjoying a safari and birdwatching. The park is a great place to spot wildlife and there’s a good chance we’ll see lions and leopards.

We start the day spotting wildlife from hides at the park, where we might see leopards, lions, baboons, and lots of birdlife. Then, we retrace our steps to Wassadou.

Wassadou – Georgetown/(South Bank) Janjanbureh
Today, we drive back into the Gambia, stopping for birdwatching on the way. We arrive in Janjanbureh in the afternoon and spend the night there.

Georgetown - Tendaba
After breakfast, we’ll have a boat trip on the River Gambia, where we can expect to see birds such as Camine Bee-eaters, Red-Throated Bee-Eaters, African Pigmy Goose, Cinnamon Breasted Bunting, Spotted Thick–Knee , Temmick Courser, Savule’s Bustard, Kingfishers, Herons, Nightjars, Rollers, Weavers, Woodpeckers, Cisticolas, Waxbills, Ground Hornbills, Adamawa Turtle Dove, Swamp Flycatchers, Marabou Stock, Brubru, White Shouldered Black Tit, Goliath Heron, White Back Night Heron, Swallows, Swifts, Anteater Chat, Brown Necked Parrot, Black Wood Hoopoe, Varreaux’s Eagle Owl, Egyptian Plover, together with many raptors, vultures, eagles, buzzard, falcons and more. We’ll then travel along the south bank of the river westwards as far as Tendaba Camp, where we’ll spend the night.

Tendaba Camp – full day
After breakfast, we go on a boat trip to Kissi Bolong and Tonku to the Baobolong Wetland Reserve, returning to Tendaba for lunch. In the afternoon we’ll explore the bush tracks around Bataling and Kiang West National Park, again returning to our base, Tendaba Camp, for dinner and to spend the night. Some of the possible highlights today are White backed Night Heron, Blue Flycatchers, Pel Fishing Owl, Pelicans, Herons, Storks, Bee-eaters, Kingfishers, Montagu's, and Erusian Marsh Harrier, Swifts, Swallows, Woodpeckers, Brown Sunbirds, Terns, and small Waders.

Tendaba – Eco Lodge
After breakfast, we check out of Tendaba Camp and travel further west. We will have stops at Raptor Bridge and Kampanti, Bamakuno Forest, Pirang Pons, and Farasutu Forest, and have a lunch break at our eco-camp near Tungina.

We have our final opportunity for birdwatching before breakfast, in the gallery forest near our eco-camp, or on boats in the nearby Bolong. We return to the camp for breakfast, before taking you to the airport, or another destination if you are staying longer in the Gambia.
