Day 2: Temples of Angkor | Join-In Exploration with Private Guide
After breakfast, meet your private guide and a small group of temple enthusiasts. The Angkor temples pass is at your own expense. Covering about 400 square kilometers of forest and ruins, Angkor Archaeological Park preserves Khmer Empire capitals from the 9th to 15th centuries. This visually, architecturally, and artistically breathtaking site is among Southeast Asia’s most important archaeological treasures. Its icons include Angkor Wat, fortified Angkor Thom, and Bayon, whose towers feature hundreds of serene sculpted faces. UNESCO oversees programs protecting the site and surrounding environment. Begin at Angkor Thom’s South Gate, then explore Bayon, Baphuon, Phimean Akas, the Royal Enclosure, and the Terraces of the Elephants and Leper King, once used for royal ceremonies. Conclude the morning at Preah Khan, a sprawling monastic complex of detailed carvings, semi-ruined passages, and tree roots.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, with time to rest and reflect before spending the afternoon at Angkor Wat. Considered the crown jewel of Khmer architecture and one of humanity’s greatest achievements, this early 12th-century temple combines soaring towers, carved bas-reliefs, engineering skill, and spiritual devotion. After the Khmer Empire declined, Angkor Wat was abandoned to the encroaching jungle and remained beneath dense tropical foliage for centuries, although local people knew of it. Rediscovered by a French naturalist in 1861, it became Cambodia’s defining symbol and a source of national pride. Explore its extensive galleries and exquisite carvings. Follow the stated dress code of long trousers or a skirt covering the knees, with covered shoulders. The provided guidance also lists skirts, short shorts, tank tops, and revealing clothing as culturally insensitive and not permitted.
Angkor’s historic urban landscape also contains basins, dykes, reservoirs, canals, and communication routes connected to Khmer engineering.

Day 3: Kampong Khleang Stilted Village | Join-In Boat Journey on Tonle Sap
After breakfast, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a join-in journey to Kampong Khleang, one of Tonle Sap’s most fascinating stilted villages. Wooden houses rise nearly 10 meters above the ground, standing above the floodwaters during the wet season and over exposed floodplains in the dry months. From the village, board a traditional wooden boat and follow the waterways toward the vast Tonle Sap Lake.
Along both riverbanks, observe a floating world of houses, schools, and small shops. Daily life follows the lake’s rhythms, offering insight into communities that have lived here for generations. Reflections on the water, stilted homes stretching toward the horizon, and vibrant scenes of local life provide memorable photography opportunities. Take time to capture the village’s beauty and tranquility before returning to Siem Reap for an afternoon at leisure.
Tonle Sap and its surrounding area were designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997.

Once scarred by war and upheaval, the capital now reflects warmth, resilience, and rapid growth. This morning, meet your expert guide and driver for a join-in exploration beginning at Tuol Sleng Prison, a sobering but essential introduction to Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge era. The cuisine is served with purpose, with all proceeds reinvested in its training programs.
In the afternoon, the tone becomes lighter with a visit to Wat Phnom, a hilltop temple complex containing a 14th-century stupa and standing as the city’s tallest religious monument. Continue to the Royal Palace, built in 1866 during King Norodom’s reign. Within its walls, visit the Silver Pagoda, known for a floor of more than 5,000 gleaming silver tiles. Although many treasures were lost under the Khmer Rouge, those remaining are among the finest expressions of Khmer artistry. End at the National Museum, home to an extraordinary collection of sculptures, artifacts, and relics from the Angkorian period and beyond, providing insight into Cambodia’s ancient civilization. At the Royal Palace, cover your shoulders and wear trousers or a skirt extending below the knees. Shorts, tank tops, and revealing clothing are not permitted.
