Day 1

place Welcome to Costa Rica!

Welcome to Costa Rica: welcome by your guide and transfer to your hotel. Your stay begins with a first night in San José. Located at 1,200 meters of altitude, the capital and its agglomeration regroup half of the country's population. The city is located in the heart of the central valley surrounded by different volcanoes, such as Poas, Irazú or Turrialba, and in the south by the Talamanca mountain range, which is the highest mountain range in the south of Central America.

Day 2

place Road to the Caribeean coast

Meet the rental car agency agent in the lobby of your hotel to pick up your car. Continuation in direction of the Southern Caribbean coast. You will pass by Siquirres and by the port city of Limon before reaching the seaside road to Puerto Viejo. A unique atmosphere awaits you in this small fishing village on the Caribbean coast characterized by its multicultural atmosphere, the calypso and reggea music.

Day 3

place Explore the coast

This morning, visit a Jaguar Rescue Center animal shelter.. During this visit you will get to know some of the temporary and permanent residents of the center, as well as their history. You will also be made aware of the issues and problems of wildlife protection in Costa Rica. The center does not receive any governmental support, so the entrance fees charged for the visits as well as the sales from the small souvenir store are its only incomes. Continue your day by enjoying the beautiful beaches of the coast or going to the discovery of the national park of Cahuita or on the refuge of wild life of Gandoca Manzanillo. Rent a bicycle, which is the most used means of transportation in the area, to go to the many beaches of the area. In the end of the day, enjoy a cocktail or a good beerin one of the seaside bar of the village.

Day 4

place Next stop, Sarapiqui

Departure towards the north-east of the country, to Sarapiquí, a rich agricultural region (pineapple, heart of palm, pejibaye, guanabana...). Sarapiqui is home to a lush tropical jungle Visit the many private reserves of the area, or go for a rafting adventure on Sarapiqui river.

Day 5

place Take the road to Boca Tapada

Continuation towards the north of the country, in the region of San Carlos. You will settle down at the lodge which is located by San Carlos river. Maquenque Lodge is located in the heart of the forest and marshes of the Boca Tapada region, a paradise for birdwatchers. The lodge has canoes at your disposal so that you can enjoy a ride on the lagoon.

Day 6

place Exploring Boca Tapada

This morning, you will go to the rainforest located on the lodge property, where you will hike 3 km (about 2.5 hours) with a guide from the lodge (English or Spanish) who will reveal the secrets of the flora and fauna of the area. Before finishing the tour in the hotel's garden, you will also pass by the botanical garden and the medicinal garden of the lodge. You can also enjoy other optional activities offered directly at the lodge, such as a kayak safari, a night tour in the forest, birdwatching tour, or a boat ride on the San Carlos River.

Day 7

place Road to Arenal Volcano

Today your trip will take you to the north of the country to reach La Fortuna, a town located at the foot of the Arenal volcano. Costa Rica is known to shelter about 116 volcanoes among them and surely one of the most impressive one is Arenal volcano. Despite being 7,500 years old, it is the youngest volcano in the country. Culminating at 1,630 meters, this stratovolcano is no longer active since the end of 2010 but it is a delight for photographers as well as for hot springs "afficionados"

Day 8

place Explore the area

This morning self-guided walk on the hanging bridges: this one takes place in the private natural reserve of 250Ha of primary tropical rainforest for an observation of the fauna and flora at the level of the canopy; various points of view on the volcano. 3 km of easy paths, accessible to all. You will cross 15 bridges on different heights measuring from 5 to 100 meters.

Day 9

place Next stop, Monteverde

Departure towards the locality of Monteverde on the slopes of the Tilarán mountain range, while passing initially by the Pan-American Highway and then by a rather picturesque road. Monteverde was founded in the middle of the 20th century by American Quakers who immigrated during the Vietnam War because they shared Costa Rica's pacifist values. It is a cloud forest nestled at 1,400 meters above sea level, a small paradise for nature lovers with an extraordinary diversity of flora.

Day 10

Day at leisure to visit of the many cloud forest reserves of the area, go on a zip lining tour, or visit a local coffee plantation.

Day 11

place Road to the Pacific coast

Road to the beaches of Guanacaste, to the small seaside village of Nosara. If you are looking for tranquility, Nosora is for you. This beach is lined with palm trees, and many animals live in the area. For example, Cangrejal Bay has a reef that attracts rays and tropical fish. To the north, Playa Buena Vista is a nesting site for sea turtles. The mangroves of the Buena Vista estuary are home to crocodiles and herons. On the island of Chora, you will also see pink sand and sea birds.

Day 12

place Relax on the beach

Relaxation day in Nosara, where you can explore the surroundings and why not go a little north to the small coastal village of Samara, or go south and explore the favorite seaside resort of surfers, Santa Teresa.

Day 13

place Road to the Central Pacific coast

Your adventure continues south along the Central Pacific Coast to the small coastal village of Tarcoles. Along the way we recommend a short stop at Tarcoles Bridge to observe the american crocodiles.

Day 14

place Road to the airport

Continue to Juan Santamaria International Airport. Drop off the vehicle at the rental agency near the airport; you will reach the airport with a free shuttle. It is necessary to present yourself at the boarding counter 3 hours before the takeoff time.
