On arrival at Kotoka International Airport, our expert cultural tour guide will meet, assist and transfer you to your hotel in our private air-conditioned vehicle. Once you have checked in, your guide will brief you on what to expect during your stay here in Ghana

place ACCRA AND VICINITY

After breakfast and a brief orientation by your tour guide, you will visit the following places. • Visit the W.E.B. DuBois former home, now a museum and Center for the study of Pan Africanism • Drive through Flagstaff House, the official residence and administrative offices of the president (Ghana’s Whitehouse). • We will drive past Independence Square on our way to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Park' • Tour of Historic James Town—one of Accra’s most historic neighbourhoods, where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was constructed in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for trading vessels sailing through the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined; however, a larger and more improved lighthouse completed in 1921 is still functioning today. James Town is also known as Ghana’s boxing incubator, the home of Africa’s most accomplished boxer, Azumah Nelson.

place EXPLORE ACCRA’S AUTHENTIC MARKETS

After a leisure breakfast, we set out to complete the tour of Accra taking us to the following places: • Agbobloshie to get a real insight into how life really is in a bustling West African city; • We will visit the Makola market to Makola Market; this is the biggest open market in Accra. This fascinating market has been compartmentalized into various sections to make shopping easy for buyers. You will have the chance to walk through this unusual busy market and even get the chance to bargain for stuff you would like to purchase. • Complete the day’s exploration at Arts and Crafts market where you may try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors and to “shop till you drop”

Day 4

place ACCRA – AKOSOMBO

After breakfast, you will depart the bustling city of Accra further to the eastern part of Ghana. On the way, we will stop at Cedi Beads to learn how the most authentic Ghanaian beads are made. You will have the opportunity to show your bargaining skills and get some beautiful beads as souvenirs. Arrive at the hotel and enjoy a picturesque boat cruise on the Volta lake. The rest of the evening will be at leisure.

Day 5

place AKOSOMBO-WLI-AKOSOMBO

AKOSOMBO-WLI-AKOSOMBO We depart for a scenic drive to Ho in the Volta region of Ghana. We will visit Wli (Agumatsa) Falls, found in the Agumatsa wildlife sanctuary in the Volta region. The Wli Falls believed to be the highest in West Africa, are set in a beautiful location with surrounding flora and fauna that makes for an idyllic setting. On arrival you will trek through the thick semi deciduous forest leading to the falls in Wli village. As you near the falls you will the sound of the enormous colony of bats found on the adjacent cliffs mixed with the powerful flow of the river. We can relax and enjoy a paddle in the pool beneath the waterfalls. The next stop will be the village of Tafi via mountain Afadjato, the highest mountain in Ghana. Continue to Tafi Atome, a community that protects the population of endangered Mona monkeys. The community perceives the Mona monkeys to be sacred messengers from the gods and have been protecting them and their habitat for over 200 years. You will learn about the history behind the protection from the local traditionalists in the in the village. We venture into the surrounding forests to see the endangered Mona monkeys that live here, during the walk your guide will identify the many medicinal plants which grow here and explain how the locals use them to make traditional herbal remedies. The majority ethnic group here is the Ewes. After an afternoon interaction with the locals, we return to Akosombo for another night.

Day 6

place AKOSOMBO– KUMASI

After breakfast, we depart for Kumasi, the capital of the cradle of African culture- the Ashanti Region. Kumasi may surprise you, being the most dynamic marketplace in West Africa and the second-largest city in Ghana with a population of almost three million. At the outskirts of Kumasi, we will visit the Ashanti Craft villages as follows: • The village of Bonwire, where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. See the Kente weavers in the process of creating Kente cloth in various intricate styles. • The village of Ntonso, where artisan’s hand-stamp patterns on a cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. Adinkra textiles are worn for funerals and other solemn occasions. Learn how the black dye is made from the bark of trees, and create your own Adinkra sash to take home. • The woodcarving village Of Ahwiaa, is known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, fertility dolls and other crafts from wood.

After breakfast, you may briefly pass through a local church to experience their Christmas service before visiting the National Cultural Center which features the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and various studios of brass-makers, potters and batik makers. Exhibits in this museum include a replica of the famed Golden Stool, which is believed to have descended from the sky and is the spiritual symbol of unity for the Ashanti people. The next stop will be Manhyia Palace Museum to obtain firsthand information on the legacies of the Ashanti kingdom, a regal history that dates back to 1700 and is told with relics and artefacts. This evening, explore the nightlife of Kumasi to catch some live music and enjoy a little of the local hip life, an African fusion of rap, dance hall, reggae and Hip-hop that the locals go wild for or live band music of Afro-beats and swing your hips on the energy-charged dance floors.

place KUMASI-ASSIN MANSO-ELMINA

Following breakfast, we depart to Elmina in Ghana’s Central Region. This region has had the most significant effect on the lives of Africans in the diaspora. We will pass through small villages and arrive at Assin Manso, the burial site of two former slaves from Jamaica and the US whose remains were reinterred here in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day Celebration. You will see the “Slave River:” where our ancestors were washed before confinement in the slave dungeons to await shipment to the Americas. We arrive in Elmina and check into our hotel. We continue to Elmina; embark on a guided walking tour of Elmina, which was the first point of European contact in Sub-Saharan Africa. It was once the most cosmopolitan city in Tropical Africa. Enjoy a walk through the ancient town of Elmina. At the harbour view, the colourful fishing canoes getting ready to go to sea for another night’s task of fishing. This is a picture-perfect opportunity for photographers. Transfer to your hotel and check-in. The rest of evening is free

Day 10

place ELMINA – CAPE COAST- ELMINA

After breakfast, visit the Elmina Castle/Slave Dungeon- originally called Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, completed in 1486 and was the first European made structure built in sub-Saharan Africa. We continue on a short distance drive to Cape Coast dungeon, where we will experience the emotional journey of going in the opposite direction of our ancestors, through the infamous “door of no return”. RETURNING through the “door of no return” be prepared to console your traveling companions as this is always an emotional experience. Time permitting, we visit the busiest market in Cape Coast- the Kotokoraba market prior to our return to the resort.

Day 11

place ELMINA-KAKUM-ACCRA

After breakfast and before you return to Accra, you will visit Kakum National Park, which has one of Africa’s famous rainforest canopy walkways. This tropical rainforest and the canopy walkway are sure to be one of the highlights of your time in Ghana. The walkway consists of a series of 7 bridges, attached to 7 emerging trees, 40 meters above the rainforest floor. Prepare to take a deep breath as you walk the suspended bridges. You will marvel at the breathtaking views that stretch for miles across the rainforest as you rest on the tree platforms. We are sure you will agree that this is an exciting excursion never to be forgotten. Upon arrival in Accra, you will also have the opportunity to experience some of Accra’s most authentic shopping outlets including Crafts, Carvings, Authentic African Art, exquisite fabrics and custom-made clothing. Full day at leisure. Your driver will pick you up for you to visit a lab to take your PCR tests prior to departure from Ghana. You may spend the rest of the day sunbathing along the Atlantic oceans at a beach in Accra or go out for shopping. You will enjoy a farewell dinner (on your own account) this evening at a local restaurant.
