Get to know Alentejo Countryside, Flavours & Landscape
Let's start to explore! For this day, we suggest you to choose one of the following activities: OPTION 1) Typical Alentejo: Cuisine Workshop learning how to prepare a typical Alentejo dish, followed by a walk along the property, a quick harvest in the organic garden some conversation and finally Lunch, normally in the summer season "Gaspacho Alentejano" and "Andaluz", to understand and verify the differences, in the winter "Acorda Alenejana". But first, let s go grab some aromatic herbs, tomatoes and cucumbers! Lunch included at the end of the tour (option 1). OPTION 2) A learning experience dedicated to the Portuguese typical cork production. So here is what we have planned: Lets know how it all starts? Self-drive for a guided visit to a "montado" (cork forests) at an estate property devoted to cork forestry and livestock, where the owner will explain the first stage of the cork extraction process along the way you will have as well time to taste some regional products locally produced. Cork is one of the most characteristic natural products of Portugal, a fascinating and eco-friendly raw material that nature can give us. It is a 100% natural, reusable and recyclable material, extracted from cork oaks without harming the regular development of the species and the tree itself. The tree continues to live and grow and producing new cork, after having been harvested. After all, you are where everything begins. Free afternoon for you to explore this wonderful region at your own pace, we suggest a visit to Monsarraz, an extremely beautiful mediaeval town surrounded by the mediaeval fortified walls with a 14th century castle offering excellent panoramic views over the Barragem do Alqueva and the valley of the Guadiana river or take this chance to visit Estremoz a white and noble city with a group of beautiful old-fashioned houses near the castle with a rich historical legacy with its mediaeval walls and the former thirteenth century citadel.
