Day 1: Flight to Lukla | Trek beside the Dudh Koshi to Phakding
Begin the Everest Base Camp Trek with a scenic flight to Lukla at 2,860 meters. After landing, continue on foot toward Phakding. This flight and trek form the opening sequence of the journey, moving directly from air travel into the first walking section.
Follow the gentle trail along the Dudh Koshi River until you reach Phakding at 2,610 meters. The opening walk serves as a warm-up and allows you to adjust to the pace and rhythm of trekking before continuing the route.
Lukla is widely known as the Gateway to Everest.

Day 2: Enter Sagarmatha National Park | Cross suspension bridges and climb to Namche Bazaar
Continue along the Everest Base Camp trail as it enters Sagarmatha National Park. Cross the suspension bridges in sequence, following the route deeper into the region. After the bridge crossings, begin the gradual climb that leads toward Namche Bazaar.
Reach Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters after completing the ascent. Known as the vibrant Sherpa capital, Namche is also a key acclimatization hub on the Everest Base Camp Trek. Its elevation and role on the route make it an important stage of the journey.
Sagarmatha National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.

Day 3: Acclimatization Above Namche | Hike to Everest View Hotel and return
Use this scheduled rest and acclimatization day to adjust before the trek continues to higher elevations. From Namche Bazaar, set out on a hike to Everest View Hotel at 3,880 meters. The outing keeps you active while supporting the day’s acclimatization purpose.
At the hotel, take in panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and the surrounding peaks. After viewing the mountain scenery, follow the route back to Namche Bazaar, completing the planned acclimatization hike at the same base where the day began.
Namche Bazaar is a historic trading hub known for its homemade yak cheese and butter.

Day 4: Trek to Tengboche | Walk through pine forests to the monastery
Leave Namche Bazaar and continue toward Tengboche at 3,867 meters. Follow the trekking route through pine forests, with mountain views accompanying this stage of the journey. The forested trail leads you onward until you reach the day’s destination.
After arriving in Tengboche, visit the famous Tengboche Monastery. The monastery provides the day’s main spiritual focus and adds a religious dimension to the mountain trek. This significant visit completes the planned activities in Tengboche.
The original Tengboche Monastery burned down in 1989 and was rebuilt with a stronger structure.

Day 5: Ascend to Dingboche | Pass Pangboche with views of Ama Dablam
Depart Tengboche and begin the gradual ascent toward Dingboche at 4,410 meters. Follow the route through Pangboche village, maintaining a steady climb as the trail gains elevation. This section continues your progression into the higher stages of the Everest Base Camp Trek.
As you pass Pangboche, take in breathtaking views of Ama Dablam along the way. Continue to Dingboche, the day’s final destination and an important acclimatization stop on the route. Reaching Dingboche completes the ascent before the scheduled acclimatization day.
The name Ama Dablam means “Mother’s necklace,” reflecting the mountain’s ridges and hanging glacier.

Day 6: Dingboche Acclimatization Hike | Climb Nangkartshang Hill for panoramic mountain views
Spend the day acclimatizing in Dingboche at 4,410 meters before the trek continues. Follow the planned hiking route to Nangkartshang Hill, using the ascent to remain active and support your adjustment to the increasing altitude.
From Nangkartshang Hill, take in panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Island Peak. The viewpoint brings all three named peaks into the day’s mountain panorama, combining the acclimatization schedule with a focused high-altitude hike.
Island Peak was renamed Imja Tse in 1983, although its original English name remains widely used.

Day 7: Rugged Trail to Lobuche | Pass climber memorials near the Khumbu Glacier
Leave Dingboche and continue toward Lobuche at 4,940 meters. As you move closer to the Khumbu Glacier, the Everest Base Camp trail becomes increasingly rugged. Follow the rougher terrain through the first part of the day as the route leads deeper into the region.
Continue past the memorials dedicated to climbers before completing the trek to Lobuche. These memorials form a distinct point along the route as you approach the day’s destination. Arrival in Lobuche concludes this demanding section near the Khumbu Glacier.

Day 8: Gorakshep and Everest Base Camp | Cross glacier terrain to the foot of Everest
Leave Lobuche and trek to Gorakshep at 5,170 meters, completing the first stage of this major day on the Everest Base Camp route. From Gorakshep, continue toward the final objective as the trail moves onto glacier terrain.
Cross the glacier terrain to reach Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters. Standing at the foot of Mount Everest marks one of the trek’s major highlights and central achievements. Celebrate reaching the legendary base camp after the sustained journey through the Khumbu region.
Gorakshep is the final settlement on the established trail to Everest Base Camp.

Day 9: Kala Patthar Sunrise | View Everest before descending to Pheriche
Begin with an early morning hike from Gorakshep to Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters. Reach the viewpoint for sunrise and take in the best view of Mount Everest available on the Everest Base Camp Trek. This high point forms the main focus of the morning.
After sunrise, leave Kala Patthar and begin the descent to Pheriche. Follow the route down to 4,288 meters, completing a substantial loss in elevation after the morning hike. Arrival in Pheriche concludes the day’s return journey from Kala Patthar.
The Himalayan Rescue Association opened its Pheriche Aid Post in 1973 to address acute mountain sickness.

Day 10: Return to Namche Bazaar | Descend through Tengboche and forested trails
Leave Pheriche and begin the descent toward Namche Bazaar. Follow the return route through Tengboche, retracing this section of the Everest Base Camp trail in the opposite direction. Continue at a lower elevation as you move back toward the established Sherpa hub.
Proceed through beautiful forests on the way to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 meters. The forested trail forms the final section of the day’s descent before you reach the familiar settlement. Arrival in Namche completes the return from Pheriche through Tengboche.
Namche Bazaar holds a weekly market every Saturday morning, continuing its historic trading role.

Day 11: Final Trek to Lukla | Follow the Dudh Koshi River and celebrate
Leave Namche Bazaar and begin the long final trekking day of the Everest Base Camp journey. Follow the route beside the Dudh Koshi River as you continue back toward Lukla. This extended walking stage retraces the lower section of the trail used near the beginning of the trek.
Continue along the river route until you reach Lukla at 2,860 meters. Arrival marks the completion of the trekking portion after the journey to Everest Base Camp and back. Celebrate in Lukla before the scheduled flight to Kathmandu the following morning.
Lukla Airport is officially known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport and was established in 1964 under Sir Edmund Hillary’s supervision.

Day 12: Fly Back to Kathmandu | Complete the journey with a morning scenic flight
Begin the final day in Lukla and board the morning scenic flight back to Kathmandu. This air journey provides the final transport stage of the 12-day Everest Base Camp Trek, carrying you away from the trekking route after the previous day’s return to Lukla.
Arrive in Kathmandu at 1,350 meters, where the Everest Base Camp journey concludes. The flight completes the route that began with the outbound trip to Lukla, closing the trek after the ascent to base camp and the return through the Khumbu region. Leave with unforgettable Himalayan memories.
