Breakfast at the hotel and leave for Habarana. En route visit the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. In the centre of the Cultural Triangle lies the UNESCO World Heritage site, Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, a magnificent blend of natural, artistic, historical and cultural merit. The hike up to the complex amid chirping birds and mischievous monkeys overlooking a panoramic view of the surrounding unfolds before you the legacy of great King Valagamba dating back to 1st century BC. The king leaves behind lessons of gratitude, for lighting up his dark days when he sought refuge in the caves from the South Indian invasion of his kingdom by converting the caves into a Buddhist temple. Over the years, many kings decorate this jewel of a masterpiece. Today, it bears 157 statues of the Buddha and colourful paintings on the ceiling and walls created with indigenous traditional paints depicting its grandeur of Sri Lanka’s heritage. Beyond 1st century BC, the caves claim to have been a haven for prehistoric dwellers, making this beauty extra special. Lunch and Dinner on own arrangement. Habarana - Polonnaruwa – Minneriya - Habarana
Breakfast at Hotel. AM: Excursion to Polonnaruwa, the 02nd Ancient Capital of Sri Lanka. Sightseeing of Polonnaruwa ancient city on a cycle. Polonnaruwa rose to fame as the capital after the decline of Anuradhapura. Its period of greatness was from the 10th - 12th centuries AD. The entire landscape of the region is punctuated by huge man-made reservoirs, veritable inland seas the most famous of which is the Prakrama Samudra or the Sea of Parakrama, larger in size than the Colombo harbor. The monuments of this medieval city are relatively well preserved and give clear evidence of the glory of Sri Lanka's past. See the Royal Palace complex, the Quadrangle with its concentration of ancient heritage and the spectacular Gal Vihare complex of four massive images of the Buddha, cut from a single slab of granite – a highlight of ancient Sri Lankan rock carving. Habarana - Hiriwaduna – Sigiriya - Habarana
Breakfast at Hotel. Leave for Hiriwaduna for a 03hour trek through this archetypal Sri Lankan Village. Just a 15-minute drive and witness a life of simpler comforts, and sweeter joys. Drive to an unpaved gravel path that leads to the red soils of the tank bund which ends at a reservoir. By the time you soak in the rustic setting, you might get invited by a villager for a jaggery-sweetened cup of tea in their home. Later, walk around a little and take a catamaran ride into the reservoir with one of the fishermen and glide through the still waters and abundant lotus plants. End this simple, warm experience by hopping on to a bullock cart on your way back to us. Lunch on own arrangement. Return to Hotel. PM: Excursion to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This UNESCO World Heritage site, a spectacular Rock Fortress, is one of Sri Lanka’s major attractions. The most impressive facets of the unique complex are the Water Gardens, the Frescoes of beautiful maidens, the Mirror Wall with ancient graffiti, the Lion platform and the Summit of 1.6 hectares, which was completely covered by buildings during the period of Sigiriya’s glory. Breakfast at Hotel and leave for Kandy. Lunch on own arrangement. Enjoy a “TUK TUK” ride around the Peradeniya University area. Visit to The Temple of Tooth or “Sri Dalada Maligawa” is temple in the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka. It was built within the royal palace complex which houses the only surviving relic of Buddha, the relic which situated Temple of tooth played an important role in the local politics since ancient times; it’s believed that whoever holds the Temple of tooth relic hold the governance of the country, which caused the ancient kings to protect the Temple of tooth with great effort.
