On December 28, discover bustling Accra, where modern buildings stand alongside structures from the colonial era. The city’s 120-year story includes the New Town, Ga Mashie, and Jamestown communities. Visit W.E.B. Du Bois’s former home, now a museum and center for the study of Africanism, then drive by Flagstaff House, the official residence and administrative offices of Ghana’s president, often described as Ghana’s White House.
Continue to Makola Market, an open marketplace with compartmentalized stores selling food, dresses, accessories, authentic African fabrics, and other wares. Experience its colorful displays and the calls of market women inviting buyers to browse. A seamstress will collect your fabrics and take measurements for custom-made African clothing. In the evening, attend the opening night of AfroFuture Fest, celebrating African diversity, inclusiveness, millennial talent, culture, and art.
