The past and present of the capital Accra
A full day to explore Accra from the old historical neighbourhoods such as James Town, Usher Town and Osu to the important monuments remembering prominent figures of the Pan-African movement and Independence such as Kwame Nkrumah and the WEB Dubois. Combine this with experiencing the vibrant market, local foods and if time permits, arts or music. Walking tour of Old Accra. The first experience in Accra is a bustling one. We are going to explore the old colonial neighbourhoods James Town and Usher Town on foot. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Explore some of the important monuments and memorials of Pan-Africanism and Independence. Cultural heritage of Krobo glass beads and cocoa
After an optional visit to Fort Christiansborg (Fridays only), we will explore two aspects of the Ghanaian culture which a wealth of history, evolution, and growth each on their own way. These are the Krobo recycled glass beads, and the cocoa first brought by Tetteh Quarshie. Enjoy some nature as well in the hilltop town of Aburi. Fort Christiansborg, also referred to as Osu Castle or simply The Castle, is one of the three main castles along the Ghanaian coast, and recently opened the doors for visitors. This 17th century old fort moved hands between the Danish-Norwegians, Portuguese, the Akwamu and the British and became a seat of government in post-Independence Ghana. Witness the process of traditional glass beads making , Beads play a key role in the Ghana culture and the tradition of beads making dates back centuries. Besides being used as personal adornments, beads in Ghana have an important cultural, religious, and social meaning. The Tetteh Quarshie cocoa farm lies in the small town of Mampong and is Ghana oldest cocoa farm. It tells the amazing story of the well-travelled Ghanaian Tetteh Quarshie who brought a bag of cocoa seeds from Fernando Po by the end of the 19t century. Aburi is a small town at the beginning of the Akwapim Mountain Range just outside the capital Accra. The green hilly landscape and cooler climate makes it attractive get-away from the city. Aburi is famous for its colonial sanatorium and Botanical Garden.

Via the Bunso Arboretum to the Ashanti capital
The route takes you through the rolling hills of eastern region. Stop at the tropical gardens of the Bunso Aboretum, and the Ashanti Shrines where you also learn about the female warrior and queen mother Yaa Asantewaa. A botanical walk in the Bunso Aboretum Tropical Gardens. Bunso is a small-town half-way the journey between Accra and Kumasi. The Bunso Aboretum Tropical Gardens is a perfect stop to stretch your legs during an educational tour by the local guide.

The Ashanti craft villages around Kumasi
Visit the small villages around Kumasi where textiles such as Kente and Adinkra are produced for centuries and try your own. Also visit the Menhya Palace Museum in the afternoon. In Ntonso, you will learn about the meaning and inspiration of the Adinkra stamps. The decorative adinkra symbols are used in cloth but also on walls and pottery all around the Ashanti Kingdom. One of the main landmarks in Kumasi is The Manhyia Palace that was built in 1926 upon return of the Asantehene King Nana Prempeh I after his exile to the Seychelles Islands. There are two palaces; the most recently built palace is the official residence of the current King of the Asante, while the oldest palace has been turned into a museum in 1995 and offers a good overview of Ashanti history. A guide will take you around the museum.

Journey down south to the coast
A half-day journey brings you back to Cape Coast and Elmina. Cape Coast and Elmina were the epicentrum of the transatlantic slavetrade history and this is where the main castles are located. Enroute we will visit the Assin Manso Slavve River and Memorial Park. Altogether, this could be an emotional day as it confronts you intensely with the tragedy of the slave trade history.

A naming ceremony during a day in Elmina
Visit St George’s Castle, Castle. The castle was built by the Portuguese as São Jorge da Mina (St. George Castle). The first stone of this castle was laid in 1482 by Captain Diogo de Azambuja who was at the head of an expedition of 600 Portuguese. Combine a visit to the castle with a historical walk exploring the old neighbourhoods of Elmina. The tour offers in-depth information on the economic, political, historical and cultural aspects of Elmina in the past anfd the present. Discover the archaeological site of old Elmina, Your traditional naming ceremony ,There are small differences in the naming and outdooring rites among the tribes in Ghana, but the given African name forms an important part of the identity of a child. On request, we could organise a naming ceremony for descendants of the diaspora. This will be small ceremony held by and elder in a family home where an official certificate of recognition is given and where you will be adorned with a Ghanaian cloth which you have selected yourself during your tour.

A hands-on creative day at Global Mama’s
Enjoy a relaxing day around the coast engage in some joyfull activities at Global Mama's where you can make your own batik cloth and gains some Ghanaian skills to take home such as cooking Ghanaian dishes, drumming and head-scarf wrapping. Join Global Mama’s in a hands-on batiking or cooking workshop Global Mamas is a social enterprise; all people involved work together to create a life of prosperity for African women and their families. They create and sell handmade products of the highest quality. Meet the strong women of the Cape Coast team and take part in a hands-on activity. Enjoy a last evening of choice. Either at your hotel with a delicious diner or in one of the restaurants or resorts in the vicinity of Elmina and Cape Coast. If you wish, we could organise a dancing performance (if you are travelling with a group) or check out if there is live music somewhere in town.

Return journey to Accra
Enjoy an easy-going morning before your return to Accra. Please share with us or the driver if you have special wishes for this last day and the time you would like to be back in Accra. There should be a possibility to engage in some souvenirs shopping at for example Global Mama’s, Wild Gecko, Green Butterfly, Suntrade Beads, the craft markets and more.
