Hiking Full day at Lagoa do Fogo

Hiking Tour Lagoa do Fogo
The trail starts with a dirt track that goes up through eucalyptus woods (Eucalyptus globulus), incense sticks (Pittosporum undulatum) and Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardneranum). A little ahead are examples of Flax (Phormiun tenax, plant from New Zealand) that was spun and woven in an old factory whose ruins can still be visited. The trail then continues along a levada (about 2 kms) until reaching a wider area, with large slopes on both sides to the edge of Lagoa do Fogo. During the climb there are several places where you can enjoy a magnificent view over Vila Franca do Campo and its Ilhéu. The stop for a snack is made by the banks of the Lagoon, with the possibility of swimming in the most pristine lagoon of São Miguel. The return to Ponta Delgada includes a visit to the bathing area of Caloura.
