Day 1

place Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi | Airport welcome and city transfer

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, also identified as JKIA, meet the representative assigned to you at the airport. Your representative will provide any assistance you need after landing, giving you a clear point of contact as your five-day journey begins in Nairobi.

Once the arrival assistance is complete, your representative will accompany you from the airport and drive you into the city. This direct transfer follows the airport welcome, allowing you to complete the day’s planned arrival arrangements before continuing your Great Rift Valley journey the next day.

The name Nairobi comes from the Maasai phrase “Enkare Nyrobi,” which means “cool water.”

After breakfast, depart Nairobi and drive toward scenic Lake Naivasha, descending into the Great Rift Valley along the way. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint before continuing to the lake, where you arrive in time for lunch ahead of the afternoon’s planned activities.

In the afternoon, board a boat for your transfer across Lake Naivasha to Crescent Island. Once ashore, explore on foot in its unique open environment, where you can walk freely among giraffes, zebras, and antelopes before completing the day’s experience.

Lake Naivasha is a shallow freshwater lake that was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 1995.

Later, proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park for a relaxed exploration of its unique landscapes. View the open plains and dramatic rock formations during your visit. A guided cycling experience within the park is available as an optional activity at extra cost.

Hell’s Gate National Park was officially gazetted in 1984 and covers approximately 68 square kilometers.

In the afternoon, set out on a game drive through the park, known for its rhino sanctuary and diverse birdlife. Look for black and white rhinos, buffalo, lions, and giraffes. Depending on the season, you may also see flocks of flamingos gathered along the lake.

Formal conservation at Lake Nakuru began in 1961, when the lake’s southern tip was designated a bird sanctuary.

After the game drive, depart for Nairobi and arrive in time for your transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Your five-day journey concludes at the airport, where you continue with your onward travel arrangements.
