Day 1

place Day 1: Real Athens Welcome | Arrival and hidden-city walk

Welcome to Greece. When you arrive at Athens International Airport, your private driver will be waiting to greet you and take you to your hotel in the heart of the city. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to unwind after your journey, settle in, and perhaps enjoy a quiet drink or a refreshing dip as you begin to take in the atmosphere of Athens.

Later in the afternoon, you will meet your licensed guide for a two-hour walking orientation tour called Athens Beyond Acropolis. This experience is designed as a gentle introduction to the city and offers a different perspective away from the crowds.

You will walk at a relaxed, moderate pace through quiet paths and distinctive neighborhoods as your guide reveals the hidden side of Athens. The route includes Anafiotika, the Cycladic-style enclave tucked beneath the Acropolis, and Philopappos Hill, where St. Demetrios Chapel sits among the greenery. You will also stand on Pnyx Hill, the birthplace of democracy more than 2,600 years ago, and hear the legends connected to Socrates' Prison.

From the panoramic views on Philopappos Hill to the timeless lanes of Plaka, the walk introduces different layers of the city’s cultural heritage. Along the way, you will also glimpse the Ancient Agora, the Roman Forum and its Tower of the Winds, and stroll along the pedestrian Dionysiou Areopagitou Promenade. Throughout the tour, your private guide will share stories and insights that help bring each location into context.

This curated welcome experience does not include entry to archaeological sites, which keeps the tour relaxed and flexible. By the end, you will be well oriented and ready to enjoy your first evening in Athens, perhaps by returning to one of the neighborhoods you explored for dinner.

Pnyx Hill was the meeting place of the ancient Athenian assembly and is closely tied to the development of democracy.

Day 2

place Day 2: Athens Through History | Acropolis and market flavors

Today, your time in Greece moves deeper into both ancient and modern Athens. After a relaxed morning, you will meet your expert licensed guide, a specialist in archaeology and gastronomy, for a private tour that brings together the city’s two defining themes: history and food.

Your visit begins at the foot of the Sacred Rock with the Theater of Dionysus, the birthplace of Greek drama. From there, you will ascend the Acropolis with skip-the-ticket-line service, giving you more time among its monuments. As you explore the site, you will see the Parthenon, the Erechtheion with its famous Caryatids, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Propylaia. Throughout the visit, your guide will explain the stories of the gods, heroes, and historical figures connected to these sacred grounds. From the summit, you will also take in sweeping views across Athens, including the Ancient Agora, Mars Hill, and the Temple of Hephaestus.

After descending from the Acropolis, the experience shifts from antiquity to the everyday life of the city. You will walk through the winding streets of Plaka and continue into the lively Monastiraki area, where modern Athens is on full display. From there, your guide will lead you beyond the usual routes and into the Athenian Market District.

Here, your culinary exploration begins in earnest. You will pass through the Fruit and Vegetable Market, filled with fresh local produce and Mediterranean color, and the Meat and Fish Market, the energetic commercial core of the city. You will also stop at sweet shops and bakeries to sample Greek sweets and traditional pastries. In smaller specialty food shops, you will enjoy free samples of Greek delicacies, including olives, artisanal cheeses, honey, and more.

As you continue through the market area, your guide will share insight into Greece’s culinary heritage and the principles behind the Mediterranean diet. The tour also includes samples of local delicacies and traditional beverages, giving you a fuller understanding of Greek hospitality through taste.

The experience ends near the vibrant Monastiraki area, leaving you well placed to keep exploring on your own, revisit a favorite market stall for souvenirs, or settle into a traditional taverna for dinner. Before you part ways, you will receive an Athens guidebook and map with personalized recommendations for the rest of your stay.

The Theater of Dionysus is widely regarded as the birthplace of ancient Greek drama, where tragedies and comedies were first performed in Athens.

Day 3

place Day 3: Flight to Skiathos | From Athens to island time

After a leisurely breakfast and some free time to enjoy your final morning in Athens, your private driver will meet you at your hotel and take you to Athens International Airport for your domestic flight to Skiathos.

The short flight gives you your first view of the Aegean’s bright blue waters from above. When you arrive at Skiathos Airport, known for its dramatic low approach over the sea, your local driver will be waiting to greet you and transfer you to your hotel. The drive along the coastal road introduces the island’s pine-covered landscape and turquoise water right away.

The rest of the day is left free so you can settle into the slower rhythm of the Sporades. You may want to unwind at your accommodation, perhaps with a dip in the pool or time on your balcony in the Aegean breeze. You can also explore at your own pace by heading to a nearby beach, with more than 60 beaches on Skiathos and many within a short walk or taxi ride.

If you prefer, spend time in Skiathos Town, also known as Chora, where cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, bougainvillea, boutiques, and cafes line the old harbor. You might also choose a seaside taverna for a glass of ouzo or a fresh Greek salad while watching the fishing boats in the harbor. This free afternoon gives you time to adjust, relax, and begin your island stay.

Skiathos is part of the Sporades, a Greek island group in the northwestern Aegean known for green landscapes and clear coastal waters.

Day 4

place Day 4: Wild Skiathos by Jeep | Monasteries, Kastro, beaches, and forest roads

This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel for a private jeep safari across Skiathos. Covering approximately 60 kilometers, the route is designed to reveal the island’s wilder side through a mix of asphalt roads and dirt tracks, with changing views across landscapes that are difficult to reach on a standard island drive.

Your first stop is the Monastery of Evangelistria, a place of major historical and spiritual importance. Known as the historical birthplace of the Greek flag, this beautifully renovated monastery also has a working distillery that produces wine and tsipouro in limited quantities. These are unique local spirits not found anywhere else in the world. You can also visit the on-site museum, which holds historical artifacts connected to the island’s past and its role in the Greek Revolution.

From there, you continue to the Kastro, the site of Skiathos’ old city. Set dramatically on a rocky headland, it served as a refuge when pirates dominated the Aegean during the 13th and 14th centuries. As you explore the fortress area, you will pass a number of old churches and gain a clearer sense of what life was like for the islanders who once lived here.

The route then leads through forest-like scenery toward the northern coast and Kechria Beach, one of the island’s best-known and most beautiful beaches. Here, you will have time for a swim in crystal-clear water. If you wish, you can also stop for lunch at the beachfront taverna, which serves fresh local dishes. Lunch is not included.

As the safari continues around the island, you will pass the Monastery of Kounistra and then reach the Bay of Elias, known for its postcard-like views. The journey then moves on to the western side of Skiathos, passing Mandraki Beach, famous for its golden, glittering sand. Before returning, you will drive through the protected Mandraki Forest, where dense pine woodland reaches the sea, and continue to the well-known Koukounaries beach area. You are expected back at your hotel at approximately 6:00 PM.

For today, bring a camera, sunscreen or a hat, and swimwear with a towel for swimming. Please also follow the dress code for the Monastery of Evangelistria: ladies should wear skirts, men should wear trousers, and shoulders must be covered.

The Monastery of Evangelistria is closely associated with modern Greek history and is traditionally linked to the first Greek flag of the War of Independence.

Day 5

place Day 7: Skopelos by Boat | Beaches, coves, and film locations

After yesterday’s off-road exploration, today takes a slower pace with a focus on the winemaking heritage of Skiathos. The morning is free, so you can relax as you wish, whether that means a leisurely breakfast overlooking the sea, time in Skiathos Town, or another swim at a nearby beach.

In the afternoon, you will be transferred to a local winery for a tasting experience that combines a vineyard visit, a look at the production process, and a guided sampling of the estate’s wines.

When you arrive, your hosts will welcome you and lead you through the vineyard, explaining the philosophy and cultivation practices behind grape growing in this island setting. You will learn about the specific conditions of the Aegean environment, where sea breezes and sunny slopes shape the character of the fruit.

From the vines, the visit continues into the production area. Here, you will be introduced to the winemaking process, including fermentation and bottling. This behind-the-scenes portion usually lasts about 30 minutes and offers a practical look at the work involved in each bottle.

After the tour, you will move to the tasting area for the premium wine tasting. The tasting includes seven different wines, each served in a generous 75 ml glass: three white wines, one rosé, two red wines, and one sweet wine to finish.

A selection of local snacks will accompany the tasting. These include two types of artisanal cheese, slices of traditional salami, fresh grapes and ripe tomatoes, olives, dried fruits, and fresh bread, bread sticks, and crackers.

Throughout the tasting, your host will share the history of the winery, explain the characteristics of each varietal, and introduce you to Greek winemaking traditions. The setting is relaxed and gives you time to ask questions and engage with the flavors of the island at an unhurried pace.

After the experience, you will be taken back to your hotel.

Greek winemaking has ancient roots, with evidence of wine production dating back thousands of years across the Aegean world.

Day 6

place Day 6: Ferry to Skopelos | Crossing into Mamma Mia country

After breakfast and some final time at your Skiathos hotel, your private driver will pick you up and take you to the port. There, you will board the ferry to Skopelos for the next part of your journey.

The crossing takes approximately one hour and offers wide views over the Aegean. As Skopelos comes into view, you will begin to see the green outline of the island rising from the sea, along with whitewashed chapels on the hillsides that became familiar through the film.

When you arrive at Skopelos port, your local driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. During the drive along the coast, you will get your first impression of the island’s character, with dense pine forests descending toward clear water, traditional villages with red-tiled roofs, and a notably calm atmosphere.

The rest of the day is free. You can use this time to settle into your accommodation and enjoy the change of scenery, or head out to explore Skopelos Town, also known as Chora. Its maze-like streets, whitewashed houses, flower-filled courtyards, small churches, and hidden stairways make it one of the island’s defining sights. As you walk, you may notice parts of the town that appeared as film backdrops, though the island’s everyday character is what defines the experience.

In the evening, you may want to choose a taverna in town or near the port for dinner. Skopelos is known for its prunes, or damaskinia, as well as its strong local food traditions, making this a good introduction to the island’s cuisine.

Skopelos Town is a protected settlement recognized for its traditional architecture and historic urban character.

Day 7

place Day 7: Skopelos by Boat | Beaches, coves, and film locations

At 10:30 AM, you will depart from the port on a private boat tour around Skopelos. This full-day experience is designed to show you the island’s coastline, famous beaches, hidden coves, and the filming locations connected to Mamma Mia!.

As you travel around the island, your captain will take you to some of Skopelos’ best-known swimming spots. These include Milia, a long sandy beach backed by green forest, Stafilos, known for its clear water and connection to the mythical son of Theseus, and Limnonari, a sheltered bay with turquoise water and a traditional taverna among the trees. You will also visit secret beaches and sea caves that are accessible only by boat, with opportunities to swim in secluded coves away from the busier parts of the island.

The tour also includes the main film locations that many travelers come to see. You will view Agios Ioannis Chapel from the water, the chapel set dramatically on a rock above the sea where the wedding scene in Mamma Mia! was filmed. You will also visit Kastani Beach, used for many of the movie’s best-known scenes, including the arrival of the three possible fathers, and Amarantos, another beach featured in the film.

During the afternoon, you will have the option to stop for lunch at a place of your choice. Your captain can recommend seaside tavernas in Agnontas, a fishing village with tavernas on the water, Panormos, a bay with several restaurants known for fresh seafood, or Neo Klima, also called Elios, a village with a beach and family-run tavernas. Lunch is optional and not included.

Your boat day ends between 5:30 and 6:00 PM when you return to Skopelos port.

Agios Ioannis Chapel became internationally recognizable after its appearance in Mamma Mia!, though it was already a real island place of worship before the film.

Day 8

place Day 8: Hidden Skopelos Nature | Secret coves, trails, and forest meal

At 10:00 AM, you will be picked up from your hotel for a 6-hour small-group adventure in Skopelos, limited to a maximum of 6 guests. Today’s experience takes you away from the main tourist areas and into the island’s lesser-known natural landscapes, combining sightseeing, swimming, snorkeling, trail walking, and a light forest dining experience.

Led by an experienced local guide, you will explore parts of Skopelos known only to locals. The route focuses on the island’s more remote side, with quiet scenery, forested areas, and hidden coastal spots that are far removed from the busier beaches and villages.

During the day, you will stop at secret coves where you can swim in turquoise and sapphire-colored water. Snorkeling equipment is provided, giving you the chance to explore the underwater environment, including rocky reefs, fish, and other marine life in the Aegean.

Between swims, the experience continues on foot with gentle trail walks through forest paths. As you move through the island’s interior, you will walk among pine trees and reach viewpoints that reveal the sea below. These routes offer access to places that cannot be reached by road.

A key part of the day is the light forest meal, prepared with local ingredients and served in a natural outdoor setting. Under the shade of pine trees, you will enjoy fresh bread, local cheese, olives, seasonal produce, and refreshing drinks.

The excursion ends at around 4:00 PM, when you will be dropped off back at your hotel. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to relax after the day’s activities.

For today, bring a swimsuit and towel, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat, a camera, and a sense of adventure.

Skopelos is often noted for its combination of dense pine forest and coastline, a landscape that is less common on many Greek islands.

Day 9

place Day 9: Return to Athens | Ferry, flight, and departure day

After breakfast, your private driver will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to Skopelos port for the journey back toward Athens.

From the port, you will board the ferry for the approximately one-hour crossing to Skiathos. This final stretch on the water gives you one last view of Skopelos as the island recedes into the Aegean, followed by the familiar pine-covered landscape of Skiathos as you approach.

When you arrive at Skiathos port, your local driver will be waiting to take you directly to Skiathos Airport. From there, you will board your domestic flight back to Athens, crossing the Aegean once more as you leave the Sporades behind.

Your onward international departure arrangements will determine the rest of the day. If your flight timing allows, you may have time for a final Greek coffee or some last-minute souvenir shopping before leaving Greece.

This marks the end of your journey through Athens, Skiathos, and Skopelos, with private transfers, ferry connections, and domestic flights coordinated for your return.

The Sporades are linked by regular ferry routes, making Skiathos a key transport hub for reaching islands such as Skopelos.
