Day 1

place Welcome to the Namib Rand Reserve

Spanning an area of 172,200 hectares and encompassing four distinct ecosystems, the Namib Rand Reserve is among the largest privately owned game parks in Southern Africa. Founded to conserve the unique environment and wildlife species of the south-western Namib Desert, the park’s mix of dunes, mountains, rocky outcrops, sandy flats and gravel plains provides habitats for a diversity of mammals – including hyenas, jackals, foxes, antelopes and various wild cats – as well as a plethora of bird species, reptiles, insects, frogs and flora. Visitors can discover the mysterious ‘fairy circles’, which dot the landscape and sip on sundowners while watching the sunset over this unspoilt ancient landscape. Having been named Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, it is one of the least light-polluted areas in the world, so don't miss this excellent star gazing opportunity.

Day 2

place Visit the famous Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei

Departure on a Sossusvlei guided excursion in the early morning. At sunrise you reach the entrance gate of the Sossusvlei. It is another 60km – about an hour through the amazing scenery until you reach the 2x4 parking. You stop in the heart of the Sossusvlei and take a walk into the dramatically scenic “Dead Vlei”. The 'vlei' itself only fills after rare heavy rainfall when, in a complete turn-around, it becomes a spectacular turquoise lake. The highlight of your Sossusvlei excursion is the view from atop the dunes! "Big Daddy", one of the world's tallest dunes, can be climbed for incredible views of Dead Vlei below and the entire area for miles. Aside from the spectacular scenery and geological fascinations at Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, the area is ideal for observing some of the dune life for which the Namib is so well known. Geologists believe that this magnificent desert, that covers most of the Namib Naukluft National Park, is the oldest desert in the world. The older the dune the brighter the colour from slow iron oxidisation and a zillion tiny fragments of garnets. These dunes refract spectacular colours with the changing light and turn from burnt orange through reds to deepest mauve

place Flight along the Skeleton Coast

Known by the Bushmen as the "land God made in anger" the Skeleton Coast is remoteness at its best. Thousands of miles of sandy desert dotted with shipwrecks meet with the cold waters on the Atlantic and somehow an amazing array of wildlife and flora manages to survive in this harsh but beautiful environment. Perched amongst the dramatic dunes of Namibia's Skeleton Coast, Shipwreck Lodge is a unique and exciting concept combining distinctive design, an unrivalled location within the park and fantastic opportunities for both wildlife viewing and desert adventures. The lodge itself and each of the rooms are designed to look like the shipwrecks for which this region is famed, allowing them to blend into the hauntingly beautiful surroundings and adding a sense of fun to this unspoiled wilderness. Each of the rooms has its own private deck area with an outdoor bath from which you can soak in the impressive desert scenery. To one side of the lodge you will find far-reaching golden sand, whilst the desert in the opposite direction is swathed in greenery, with marshland and forest providing water and habitat for the desert-adapted wildlife which roams the Skeleton Coast.
