Guided tour of Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon
We have an early start to the day and enjoy a quick cup of coffee or tea before driving to the Sesriem gate of the Namib Naukluft Park. The gate opens at sunrise and after entering we drive down the wide floodplain of the Tsauchab River surrounded by red dunes. Much of the day is spent climbing the highest sand dunes in the world. Big Daddy offers a strenuous climb, but the view along the crest is completely worth it. Upon descent, the whispering sands of the Namib lead to the ancient camelthorn trees of Dead Vlei – one of the most photographed areas in Sossusvlei. Exploration continues into the rugged Sesriem Canyon before returning to the lodge for lunch. We spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge before finding a vantage point to enjoy another breathtaking sunset in the Namib.
