Napa & Sonoma Combo Wine Tour expand_more

Day 1

place The Best of Napa & Sonoma

Our first winery is Peter Cellars, which embodies the charm of Sonoma Valley wine tasting. This boutique estate winery produces award-winning varietals under the watchful eye of winemaker Peter Mauel, who combines the unique terroir and fruit characteristics of the famous Carneros appellation with old-world French winemaking techniques. Peter grew up in the United Kingdom and honed his skills in Burgundy and Bordeaux before studying at UC Davis We then visit Homewood Winery, a true down-home experience. It's a quaint and friendly micro-winery nestled in the heart of the Carneros region, producing about 1,000 cases each year. With luck, you'll get to meet the owner, Dave, and hear about his passion for the vine and how he learned and grew within the industry from simple home winemaker to cellar proprietor to produce his beloved wines. Lunch is on your own at the famous Oxbow Public Market in the town of Napa. If you catch a quick bite, there may be time for a walk along the Napa River or wine tasting in one of the dozen tasting rooms in downtown Napa. Our last stop is Buhman Estate Vineyards, which dates to1873, when John Jacob Buhman planted his first grapevine. Descendant Don Buhman reintroduced grape growing 20 years ago. At first, he sold his cherished Carneros grapes to brands such as Mumm, Rombauer, Sterling, and Schramsberg. But he was so successful that he started making his own wine, including Chardonnay, Rose, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the ride home, you'll have plenty of time to discuss your favorite wines and ask your friendly guide questions about the region, including where to go for dinner in San Francisco. The tour departs daily at 9:00 am. Hotel pick-up is available at most San Francisco area hotels. Expect to return to San Francisco around 5:30 pm.
