Arrival to Salta “La Linda”
Arrival to Salta city in the Argentinian Northwest region. A private transfer will take you to your hotel. Bike adventure in San Lorenzo jungle
Today you will visit the jungle vegetation that surrounds San Lorenzo, a town close to the City of Salta conserving one of the most complete biomes in the Argentine northwest, called Yungas or Selva Montana (Jungle that grows in the mountains). To start this tour you will travel to the West of the Lerma Valley in a short trip by vehicle. After preparing the bicycles and attending the safety talk, you start pedaling along rural roads entering Quebradas (Gorges) full of vegetation and watercourses. From Salta to Cachi via Los Cardones (cactus) National Park
Early departure to Cachi along road 33 and its amazing views of the spectacular Lerma Valley, the Quebrada de Escoipe, and the Enchanted Valley. You will cross Los Cardones National Park, passing by the so-called “Recta del Tin Tin”, a name given to a perfectly straight section of the road, which runs for 18 km through the cactus of the National Park. The construction of this route dates from the apogee of the Inca Empire between 1480 and 1535 and was then part of the Inca Trail that ran along the Andes from Ecuador to Argentina. You will probably see lamas next to the route. Arrival in Cachi, a splendid small town of colonial inheritance, with low houses tinged with white lime. There is a peaceful atmosphere perfect to do some walking. In the central square, don't miss the church which roof is made of candlestick cactus wood. Meeting a local community and trekking to Brealito’s lagoon
In the morning, you will depart from Cachi until Seclantás with your private English-speaking driver. Once there, you will have a 45-60 minutes trip to get to the rural community of Bealito where your host family will receive you. This community is surrounded by huge blocks of red stones and it is crossed by a river that allows farming and livestock breeding. There are 4 houses, situated 200-500m away from each other. You are going to discover the way the locals live and you will be able to take part in their daily activities. In the afternoon, you will enjoy hiking to the beautiful Laguna de Brealito (lagoon), an impressive mirror of natural water of about 50 hectares. The water is encircled by amazing red stones and the vegetation is predominantly cactus, chañares and caroubiers. Difficulty of the trekking: medium to high. Touring the Calchaquí valleys
After a breakfast with your hosts, you will begin a new day of adventure through beautiful landscapes mixing colorful mountains, hills, meadows and isolated villages, such as Molinos which owes its name to the mills built on the river; Angastaco with its chili fields and its small center that comes alive when the heat falls. The famous Route 40 runs along the Calchaquí river to the south until you will admire the Quebrada de las Flechas, a spectacular gorge with sharp rocks spilling out of the ground. In the afternoon you will arrive at the city of Cafayate where you can visit a local bodega (winery) to taste the famous Torrontés wines, typical of this region. Trekking in the Quebrada de las Conchas
Today you will go back to Salta via the splendid route 68 and its "Quebrada de las Conchas" (Gorge), a completely different landscape that you see on route 40. Your route will be punctuated with stops to enjoy the most breathtaking views of Las Conchas river having the chance of taking short hikes to appreciate the beauty of these spectacular rock formations carved by erosion and winds such as the Garganta del Diablo (the Devil's Throat), El Anfiteatro (the Amphitheater), El Sapo (the Toad), El Fraile (the Monk), El Obelisco (the Obelisk) and Los Castillos (the Castles). From Salta to Tilcara + Mountain bike tour
Early departure from Salta to Tilcara, one of the towns of Quebrada de Humahuaca, was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to the richness of its Andean culture and the beauty of the landscapes. On the way, you visit Purmamarca and the famous Seven Colours Mountain. Arrive at Tilcara around noon. Altitude: 2.465 meters above sea level In the afternoon, you will take a bike tour to the tiny village of Juella to acclimatize to the altitude. Discovering the Puna by bike
The second day begins with a vehicle heading north through the Quebrada de Humahuaca to Abra Pampa, located in the Puna region. From there you will take Provincial Route No. 11 passing through the town of Casabindo until you reach Santa Ana, a small town where you will have lunch. From there you will continue cycling towards the south up to Barrancas. You will visit cave paintings and petroglyphs before arriving in the town where we will spend the night. Alfarcito by bike
After a typical Puna breakfast, you set off for the town of San Francisco de Alfarcito. You start by a vehicular path until you reach 4000 masl, at the top of the Alfar mountain range and then descend to Rinconadillas where you will have lunch. During the afternoon you will arrive at Alfarcito and you will have some rural activities with the community. Distance by bike: 22 km Difficulty: high. Salt desert by bike
Our last day takes us from the town of Barrancas by vehicular road to the neighboring town of Rinconadillas, parallel to the Guayatayoc lagoon. From there you will head southeast on a track and after 22 km on a flat road. You arrive at Salinas Grandes, an impressive salt desert at over 4100 masl, on the border between the regions of Salta and Jujuy. Transfer by vehicle to Tilcara. Distance by bike: 45 km Difficulty: high. The highest peak of the route is Salinas Grandes, at 4.192 meters above sea level Private tour, with English-Spanish speaking guide.
