Arrival to Quito Airport
Once you arrive at Quito airport you will be warmly welcomed by your driver and transferred to your hotel located at Otavalo city, where your accommodation for next 2 days will be, Otavalo is the capital of the Otavalo Canton and is a largely indigenous town in the Imbabura province of Ecuador. The town has about 90,000 inhabitants and is surrounded by the peaks of Imbabura (4,630 meters), Cotacachi (4,995 meters) and Mojanda volcanoes, that can be admire in a sunny day. The Otavaleños have a lot of pride in their indigenous culture and retain now a days their traditional dress. You will notice that men wear white trousers, a blue poncho, and a black hat. The women wear a white blouse with beautiful embroidered flowers on it, a long black skirt, sometimes with a white stripe on it and often braid colorful materials in their hair. Exploring Otavalo
You will start visiting the famous handicraft market of Otavalo is one of the biggest handicraft markets in South America, and market stalls are scattered in all the main streets of the city center. It is the place to find some nice souvenirs for friends, family and yourself. Make sure to bargain at least 20%-30%. You will have free time to explore the market. Then you will visit the Peguche waterfall, it is located in Peguche community, just 10 minutes northwest of the town of Otavalo. Peguche Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall of 18 metres high, formed by the river of the same name, which starts at Lake San Pablo. The waterfall is one of the most important tourist attractions nearby Otavalo. Afterwards, you will visit the nearby village of Cotacachi. This quiet town is very famous all over Ecuador for its good quality leather. You will find many shops selling different items like belts, jackets, bags, etc. Do not hesitate to shop while you are there as the prices of the leather are lower than back home. You will head to the Cuicocha Lake, located twelve km from Cotacachi. Cuicocha is a young volcano that erupted 4,500 years ago which covered a large area of north-western South America with ashes. This intense activity continued until about 1,300 years ago. The lake is formed in a former crater of the Cotacachi volcano and has two islands inside of it called Teodoro Wolf and José María Yerovi. From there, you can walk up to the viewpoint for some nice pictures, hike near the lake or jump on one of the small boats for a tour around the lake. Today your guide will take you to Tena city located in a gorgeous setting surrounded by jungle-covered hills and is a great base for trips on the Misahuallí river. It is a popular destination for travellers because you can lie down on the beach, relax and read a book while the Capuchin monkeys play around. The traditional food is really tasty, you can eat Maito, which is fish, beef or chicken cooked in "Bijao" leaf and is served with rice, salad or yucca. So delicious! Try the delicacy Chontacuro, a roasted worm from the Amazon Rain Forest. On the way you will make a stop for a thermal bath at Termas de Papallacta, which is a Hot Springs Spa and Resort located in the magical high Andes landscape. It is a perfect place to relax while bathing in the thermal waters and enjoy spectacular views of Cayambe volcano. Discover the Spa pools circuit and enjoy its waters with different temperatures in each pool receiving different types of massages through water jets, whirlpools and hot tubs water with air bubbles. And before to continue into the jungle you will visit Guango Lodge, located near the paramo and hot springs of Papallacta, is a paradise for hummingbird lovers and photographers. Seeing fourteen species of hummingbirds within an hour is not uncommon, and the Sword-billed hummingbird with its unique, long bill will surely amaze you. Our scenic vistas and a variety of trails offer you great opportunities to hike in a beautiful setting surrounded by forest-covered mountains. The Jungle
Please note that the itinerary is subject to changes due to weather conditions and operational decisions. After breakfast you will do a hike of about 3-4 hours through the primary forest, during which the guide will explain about the rain forest and medicinal plants. You can observe large trees like Ceibo trees or small insects like ants. You will return to camp for lunch, have a break, and in the afternoom you will see the beautiful butterflies and swim in the lagoon. If you are lucky, you can see the beautiful pink river dolphins. Enjoy the gorgeous sunset and take in the beauty of the Amazon. Dinner will be served at the restaurant of the lodge. In the evening you will have the opportunity to participate in a night-time activity, where we canoe on the river looking for caimans along the riverbanks. Funny and conscious day
Today you will be transfered to Baños city on the way you will visit the Yanacocha rescue center, contribute with our bautiful earth with a tree planting activity, visitPailon del Diablo waterfall and the Swing Casita del Arbol. The centre is located in the jungle, fifteen minutes outside of Puyo. It seeks the protection of the Amazonian animals, who have been found in threatening situations. In most cases, this is due to humans keeping them as pets and destroying their habitats. With medical care and personal attention, some of the animals can successfully return home. Not only is it rewarding to help with the healing process of these animals, it is also a great place to escape from your usual occupations and to clear your mind. After the visit to Yana cocha rescue center, you will take part of the reforestation and conservation program from Los Yapas, a foundation which is interested in recovering and protecting the indigenous amazon rain forest. At your arrival a staff of the foundation will explain you the prosses. Your next stop is 'Pailón Del Diablo', a waterfall located in the town of Río Verde, so called because it has three waterfalls, the same ones that due to the force with which they fall. form an impressive basin, considered one of the 10 most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Afterwards, you should definitely visit the Tree House, known as Casa del Arbol. It is built on a big tree and has a more than seven-metre high swing, that is called "the swing at the end of the world". If the weather conditions allows, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Tungurahua volcano and the mountains surrounding the city of Baños. The impressive Quilotoa Lagoon
After the breakfast, your guide will pick you up to go to the Quilotoa lake, it is a volcanic crater lake that, according to geologists, is 250 meters deep. The lake is beautiful and has a special green color due to dissolved minerals. It is possible to appreciate the lake from the view point and walk around. Then you will visit Tigua, a small town famous for its typical paintings. Tigua You will visit a studio in the small town of Tigua where the famous art form of the area is produced. Tigua art is extremely colorful and detailed. In the past, painters did not use depth in their paintings, resulting in a dimensional looking painting. Since the last century, painters began to use Western techniques and today their paintings have perspectives and nuances. The themes of the paintings differ from the depiction of life traditional to the volcanic and snowy peaks. After a day of hard work, you will continue for a relaxed overnight in Cotopaxi province. Cotopaxi National Park
This tour takes place on the Avenue of the volcanoes, you will be transferred to Cotopaxi area to visit Cotopaxi National Park. The Cotopaxi is an active volcano and its last eruption was in October 2015 (mainly ashes). on a clear day, it can be seen from several provinces of Ecuador. The majestic snow-covered peak will always be a lasting image for tourists, reminding them of Ecuador and its beautiful landscapes. The park is home to wild horses, llamas, foxes, deer, Andean condors, and bespectacled bears. It's a good idea to take a loop around Limpiopungo Lagoon to get aclimated to the altitude before going further to the volcano: Together with your guide you will explore this magnific National Park. Cultutal City Tour and Mitad del Mundo
This tour takes place in the historic center of Quito. During the tour you will visit emblematic places, your guide will use all of his knowledge of the city to take you through colonial streets, where you can try some typical Ecuadorian ice cream. and other places of interest, such as an authentic local market, to find more than 250 stalls where you can buy fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, herbs, meat and seafood. You only have to take a decision of what to buy to surprise your senses. Quito, the country´s capital, is an old Andean city, and although it doesn´t maintain much of its Inca origins, it´s still a testimony to the history of Ecuador and the merging of the Spanish and native cultures. Its historic downtown is the largest and best conserved in all of Latin America; and its buildings, being the most prominent the churches, basilica and cathedrals show the influence the Spanish conquest had on native people, while at the same time demonstrate little acts of rebellion that were imprinted in the form of the sun always being present in the highest place. It´s a perfect representation of the modern Quiteños who always find a way to encounter and defy their problems with a bit of salty humor. The cobbled stoned streets invite you to explore the colonial buildings and maybe make a stop to try the local cuisine. Canelazo and some empanadas de viento will give you the strength and warmth needed to travel across the many stories that the city has to offer just by walking around. In the afternoon you will visit the Equatorial Monument is one of the most interesting attractions of Quito. Be in the middle of the World and enjoy the different experiments in the Intiñan museum. Try to balance an egg on a nail or watch water spin opposite ways, and while some of the exhibits might be staged, the concepts behind the gravity and physics are curiously entertaining.
