Day 1

place Transfer to Hotel & Welcome Dinner

Welcome to Argentina! Upon arriving at the airport in Buenos Aires, your guide will transfer you to your hotel in the city. Along the way, you'll receive all the information needed for your trip, including your itinerary. After settling into your accommodation, take some time to explore Buenos Aires. Dinner at the Argentine Experience is much more than its headline dish of exquisitely cooked fillet steak accompanied by free-flowing Malbec. It is more like an intensive crash course in Argentine culture, complete with empanada and alfajor making sessions. It started life as a ‘closed doors restaurant’ in the apartment of founder Leon Lightman and even after the move in 2012 to more restaurant-like premises in Palermo Hollywood it has retained an intimate atmosphere. The new building is modern and light with a sleek downstairs bar area and an upstairs dining room, with two large chunky wooden dining tables and shelves of colorful mate gourds serving as decoration. The communal dining tables are the first clue that the Argentine Experience is very much a group effort. Socializing with your fellow guests is compulsory, and the first act of team bonding is to put on a checked apron and chef's hat, ready for action. With our empanadas cooking in the oven, our next challenge was a creative one: the novelty empanada competition. The winner received a jar of homemade chimichurri sauce and eternal glory in the form of a place on the Argentine Experience empanada wall of fame. As the Malbec flowed freely and mini dishes of provoleta cheese and choripan were brought out, we exchanged travel stories and talked to our hosts about Argentinian football. Transfers to/from the restaurant are not included. Restaurant is located in Palermo neighbourhood. Please advise on any dietary requirements or restrictions at the time of booking.

place North of the City Bike Tour

Enjoy the green spaces of Palermo and the aristocracy of Recoleta. After a brief orientation of what to expect for the day, we'll begin our bike ride through the "lung" of Buenos Aires in the Palermo woods district where we'll stop and enjoy the beautiful Rose Garden of Carlos Thays. Cycling along the bike lane, we'll come across many Parisian style mansions of Palermo Chico and Barrio Parque, most of which have been converted into embassies. Just a little further down the trail, we enter into the neighborhood of Recoleta. A few quick stops along the way, we'll visit the metal flower, University of Buenos Aires, National Library and Plaza Evita. Just up the hill from there is her final resting place in the infamous Recoleta Cemetery. There, you will have the opportunity to explore inside this extravagant display of mausoleums where most of Argentina's aristocracy of yesterday rests in peace. After hunger has set in, it's now time to find the best empanadas of Buenos Aires to refuel ourselves as we encounter, once again, the lovely neighborhood of Palermo Soho. Here, we will pass through two picturesque areas: Plaza Guemes and Plaza Serrano. Group excursion. Estimated duration: 5 hours. Bike, helmet & lunch included. Please advise on any dietary requirements or restrictions at the time of booking. Transfers to the bike office starting meeting point NOT included.

Day 13

place South of the City Bike Tour

Discover the city’s historical, social and architectural contrasts. After a brief historical explanation, we point our wheels south, pedaling through the oldest "barrio" of Buenos Aires: San Telmo, the historic city center. Our first stop of interest is in Lezama Park where we introduce the first settlement of Buenos Aires and how immigration shaped the city culturally, structurally, demographically, etc. Ready to ride again, we move further south towards La Bombonera - the Boca Jr soccer team’s stadium. Eager to explore more, we dive deeper into the city's Art District of La Boca visiting the famous “caminito.” Surrounded by music, colorful “conventillos” and tango dancers, we discuss precisely why this once busy port turned into the current day "postcard" of Buenos Aires. Back on our bikes, we cruise towards Puerto Madero, a huge port project that we started in the end of the XIX century yet became obsolete. After almost 80 years of abandonment, it was redeveloped into the most modern and sophisticated district of Buenos Aires. We stop for lunch at a typical "parrilla" to refuel and appreciate the art form that is "Asado Argentino" (BBQ). Veggie options available in advance. Riding around this neighborhood we enter a really particular park: ”La Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur.” This protected ecological reservation has a very peculiar story to tell and is a wonderful escape from the busy "Porteño" life. *Closed on Mondays and muddy conditions. Our last stop of the day is located in the very heart of Buenos Aires - Plaza de Mayo. There, our story concludes as we’ll be able to feel the rich Argentinean history and get an understanding as to why this very spot is, and has always been, the focus point for many public demonstrations. Group excursion. Estimated duration: 5 hours. Bike, helmet & lunch included. Please advise on any dietary requirements or restrictions at the time of booking. Transfers to the bike office starting meeting point NOT included.
