Day 4

place Tour to Coimbra via Óbidos and Nazaré

After check-out - departure for Coimbra with vehicle In the central area of Portugal, north of Lisbon, there are a number of towns and cities that are very interesting to visit. Óbidos is a beautiful little Portuguese city, declared a national heritage. It preserves some of the most emblematic buildings of the Portuguese medieval era. The name Óbidos comes from the Latin term oppidum, which means "citadel" or "fortified city." Recently it was discovered that there was presence of Roman occupants thanks to archaeological excavations, very close to the highest hill in the village. After the fall of Roman rule, the region came under the rule of the Visigoths. Nazare, already next to the coast, another highly recommended option to visit is the city of Nazaré. For centuries, Nazaré was a traditional seaside town where fishermen taught their children to avoid the big waves that crashed on the nearby cliffs. Yet over the past eight years, those same waves have made this place an unusual destination for extreme surfers like McNamara, their fans, and the international companies that sponsor athletes. The waves, which are the height of a 10-story building, are caused by an underwater canyon - 5 kilometers deep and 201 kilometers long - that ends abruptly just before the shore of the city. On the banks of the River Mondego, Coimbra is famous for its University, the oldest in Portugal and one of the oldest in Europe, which over time has shaped its image to become "the city of students". There are several monuments from those times that show the splendor of Romanesque art. In the shopping area and historic cafe area of the city center, visitors should see the Monastery of Santa Cruz, which houses the tomb of Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques, and on the other shore, the Monastery of Santa Clara-A-Velha, recovered and rescued from the waters of the river that invaded her throughout the centuries. Accommodation in Coimbra.

We consider that this emblematic monastery is an essential visit monument. The city of Peso da Régua was born from the merger of the villages of Peso and Regla, extending along the banks of the Duero. In the middle of the 18th century, the Marquis of Pombal created the Alto Duero Vineyard Company and from then on the Rule began to grow and develop its wine production and consequently the marketing of the wines, the city's brand image. Pinhão is considered the geographical center of the Douro Demarcated Region and it is here that many of the fifth port wine producers are located, some offering accommodation in the form of tourism in rural areas.
