Day 1

place Taipei – Hualien – East Coast – Taitung

Depart from Taipei in the morning, today you will take the TRA train to the East Coast and discover the last unspoiled land of Taiwan. Your driver will be waiting at the train station upon arrival. Stop by Fanshuliao, a unique canyon also regarded as a small version of Taroko Gorge. Then you will visit Shitiping, a marine abrasion platform with coral reefs and potholes that extends for 1 kilometer parallel to the coast. The shoreline at Shitiping (literally meaning stone steps), which is situated at the 65-kilometer point on the coastal highway, was formed when volcanic rock worn smooth by sea erosion was uplifted in layers that resemble stone steps-which is just what the Shiti of the name means. Sanxiantai (literally meaning terrace of the three immortals) is composed of offshore islands and coral reefs. The most famous landmark is the cross-sea bridge, connects the mainland and the island. Amis Folk Center is a cultural center that introduces the custom, architecture, art and music of the Amis – an indigenous people of Taiwan. Here the guests are welcomed to experience the lifestyle of these people who live from the sea.

The three natural river systems include the Hualien River, Xiuguluan River and Beinan River run through the valley and creating different types of landforms. The first stop is Luye Gaotai, a highland at elevation of 350 meters. The unique geographical conditions offer an ideal location for tea cultivation, and paragliding. After that, you will have a relaxing short bike tour along Mr. Brown Avenue. Mr. Brown Avenue is famous for the TV commercial of Mr. Brown Coffee (a local coffee brand). The “avenue” is a single lane pathway in the middle of the green paddy fields. Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree is a Toog Tree growing beside Mr. Brown Avenue. The tree is famous for one of the EVA Air TV commercials starred by the famous Taiwanese-Japanese actor – Takeshi Kaneshiro. Matai'an Wetland Ecological Park is located at the foot of Masi Mountain, which is the biggest natural wetland in Hualien and also the traditional homeland of the Ami people.

The national park was well-known for the soaring cliffs and plunging valleys of solid marble carved by a torrential river.
