Welcome to Bergen
Bergen, the capital of the west coast, heart of the Fjords, and the city between the seven mountains. This is the perfect starting point to explore Norway both by land, sea, and air. Here you get the best of Norwegian nature mixed with city life. Even though Bergen is the second largest city in Norway it feels intimate and friendly. Here are some ways you can spend your time in Bergen:
Explore Bergen with a Local
Discover the intricacies of colorful Bergen from a local’s perspective. This three-hour cultural walk will take you to the city’s most incredible sites, both famous and hidden. Stroll along the old wharf of Bryggen (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and visit the 13th-century Bergenhus Fortress, among other incredible landmarks.
As you go, your local expert guide will reveal fascinating historical details about Nordic kings, the Hanseatic League, and the area's unique cultural heritage. This living history is so palpable that you'll feel like you’ve taken a step back into Bergen’s lively Middle Ages. You'll then delve even deeper into the city as you go off the tourist trail to visit neighborhoods, landmarks, and viewpoints only locals know about.

Road Trip to Værlandet
Pick up your rental car, recommend a hybrid or electric, in Bergen, and set out on a road trip through the coastal landscape. Enjoy the scenery as you pass small towns, valleys, and fjords. The drive is about 187 km / 116 miles, not counting any detours along the way. The drive also entails a couple of ferry rides taking you out to the island community, you will be informed about the ferry times.
Værlandet is a beautiful island known for its stunning rugged coastline, hiking trails, and picturesque villages. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a culture seeker, or simply want a peaceful retreat, Værlandet has something to offer every traveler.
Meals: Breakfast
Rent bikes and explore the islands
Today will be a relaxing day enjoyed at your own pace as you explore Norway's westernmost inhabited community; Værlandet & Bulandet. Recommend packing a bag with some extra clothes, snacks, and drinks to be enjoyed as you bike around the islands. Here the islands are like pearls on a string, tied together by a road and 6 bridges.
We can suggest you visit Nordsjøporten (North Sea Portal), the Norwegian Seabird Center, stop for coffee and cake at Gallery Værlandet or join a guided sealife safari to spot white-tailed eagles, sea eagles, and other seabirds and aquatic animals.
Meals: Breakfast
Drive to Fjærland & Sauna
Time to leave Værlandet and enjoy another day on the road. Take the ferry back to the mainland and enjoy the scenic short drive to the small town of Fjærland. This hidden gem is tucked away in one of the deepest parts of the largest fjords in Norway; Sognefjorden. Fjærland is a great starting point for multiple hikes and activities on the fjord.
In the last few years, it has become very popular with saunas and swimming in Norway, and in Fjærland you can try it for yourself. Put on your swimming suit and enjoy the warm sauna before jumping (or slowly getting in) into the water to cool down.
Meals: Breakfast
Kayak & Hike in Fjærland
Today is a day of adventure!
In the morning you'll join a guide for one of the many hikes in the Fjærland area. Fjærland is known for its stunning nature, including both fjord, mountains, and glaciers. It is a hiker's dream and offers hikes for everyone. On the hike, your guide will take good care of you along the way, tell stories, and show you viewpoints along the way.
We can discuss further which hike may fit the best for you, taking your level of fitness and your hiking experience into consideration.
In the afternoon the adventure continues with a kayak trip on Fjærlandsfjord. Kayaking on the fjord offers great views of both the small town and the mountains surrounding it. If the weather is clear you can even spot the Bøyabreen glacier and Flatbreen glacier. During the trip, your guide will tell stories about Fjærland and its surroundings.

Drive to Bergen via Aurland & Flåm
Enjoy a relaxing morning as you start your last full day in Norway. Today you will drive from Fjærland via the famous small towns of Aurland and Flåm to Bergen. The drive is about 275 km /170 miles and includes a ferry taking you across Sognefjorden. About halfway on the drive, you get to Aurland which offers a wonderful view of Aurlandsfjord. Recommend driving to Stegastein Viewpoint to get the best view possible. From Aurland it is only a 5-minute drive to Flåm, where you can explore the small town as you please. This is the endpoint of the famous Flåm Railway.
A short drive from Flåm you also find a Viking Valley, where the people live like Vikings and you can participate in activities if you'd like.
When arrive back in Bergen you can use the day as you'd please.
