You may stop at few places on the way to enjoy a fresh fruit juice or a king coconut to quench your thirst. Wasgamuwa National Park is home to incredibly diverse wildlife including 23 species of mammal and reptiles. Its main attraction is a majestic herd of over 150 elephants, that can be seen in their most natural feeding and roaming state. Wasgamuwa derives its name from the Sinhalese 'walas gamuwa’, ‘walaha’ alluding to the bear and ‘gamuwa’ to 'the woods'. Check into hotel in Wasgamuwa & enjoy the evening. Enjoy the breakfast & leave for morning a Safari in the Wasgamuwa National Park & witness the beautiful wildlife in Wasgamuwa. Wasgamuwa park is situated in the Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. It was opened to protect the displaced wild animals during the Mahaweli development project. It is widely known for its sloth bear population. The park has several ancient sites and the wild life population is quite vast here. Elephants could be observed and large herds could be sighted during November to May. Three wild life bungalows are available on prior booking at Wasgamuwa park. This park is a paradise to nature lovers. Return to the hotel & engage with few local activities in Wasgamuwa (Activities may differ based on your travel season) In the evening walk around the Hotel & explore the area on your own. Breakfast at hotel and proceed towards Mahiyangana, discover the ancient Buddhist religious monuments & the natural rural beauty of Mahiyangana. Mahiyangana is a town situated close to the Mahaweli River in Badulla District, Uva Province of Sri Lanka. It is said that Gautama Buddha visited Mahiyangana on the full moon Poya day of January in order to settle a dispute arose between Yakkas and Nagas (two tribes then inhabited this area) and this was his first ever visit to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Aborigines’, or the Veddha’s meaning “people of the forest” of Sri Lanka has a history much older than prince Vijaya’s landing in 5th century BC and the origins of the Sinhala race. Veddha’s also collect bee’s honey and exchange it with the locals for axe blades and cloth. you will have the opportunity to meet them communicate with the (mostly sign languages) it’s fun & witness the way of life of Vaddas, if they are in the mood they will entertain you with some dance moves. The eastern plane is one tea plantation that disappears into far sky and green valley of Buduruwagala Paddy fields and forest. The Climate is cool in this Tea City.
