PM – Visit the Kalpitiya Dutch Fort and the Dutch Reformed Church in Kalpitiya. Dutch Fort - The fort is nearly square in shape,[2] with walls about 4 m (13 ft) high, constructed out of coral and limestone from the surrounding area. It has a single entrance, which fronts the lagoon, which has a pediment, with a belfry above and looks like the entrance to a church. The yellow bricks that comprise the entrance arch were reportedly brought especially from Holland. The story is that the King of Kandy had granted permission only to build a church here and that the Dutch had built the arch to mislead the King into believing that this was simply a fortified church.

After breakfast travel to the Kurikadduwan jetty which is located on the western tip of the Jaffna peninsula. Neduntheevu or Neduntivu also known by its Dutch name (Delft) is an island in the Palk Strait, northern Sri Lanka. This island is named as Delft in the Admiralty Chart unlike the other islands, whose names are Tamil. The island's area is 50 km² and it is roughly oval-shaped. Its length is 8 km and its maximum width about 6 km. Neduntivu is a flat island surrounded by shallow waters and beaches of coral chunks and sand. It is home to a small population of Tamil people, mostly living in quiet compounds close to the northern coast. The vegetation is of a semi-arid tropical type, with Palmyra palms, dry shrubs and grasses that grow on the pale Grey porous coralline soil. Papayas and bananas grow close to the local people's homes. In the western coast of the island there are remains of a 1000-year-old temple built by the Chola Dynasty, as well as the ruins of a Dutch colonial fort. The water is slightly brackish, and it is taken from shallow wells using buckets made from Palmyra palm leaves. Proceed to visit the Fort Hammenhiel, Jaffna Fort & Pooneryn Fort after breakfast from the hotel. Fort Hammenhiel - The mystery of Hammenheil Fort is not limited to the location alone. In fact, there is no real mystery behind Hammenheil Fort. Its purpose is well documented, and it is said that it hardly did justice to the intended purpose. The confines of the Fort were not home to any fictional high-profile inmates like Count of Monte Cristo. Popular folklore propagates that an infamous marauding left wing prisoner was imprisoned here but in reality, it is limited to a myth only. As one enters through a low vaulted gateway not more than seven feet in height which is the only entrance to this water fort there is ample evidence to prove that a functional jail or a correctional facility was in place. It is said that the Fort was home to a garrison of soldiers and its military pedigree is evident in the rugged architecture that abounds the facility. Jaffna Dutch Fort - Jaffna Fort, the second biggest Dutch fort built in Sri Lanka is an archaeological monument that has had a direct onslaught as a result of the recent 30 year of armed conflict. Although a portion of its seaside rampart had been destroyed due to a continuous offensive from the LTTE the fort taken as a whole has not undergone a severe destruction. An outer moat exists outside the ramparts. Outside the moat is the outer rampart which has built into it five tunnels each in a twin formation. Although the tunnels are in good preservation they are presently void of doors. However, they show signs that they have had doorways in the past. Pooneryn Dutch Fort - Pooneryn Fort was built in the north portion of the island first by the Portuguese to protect its possessions in Jaffna, it was expanded by the Dutch till in 1770. It was recorded that this fort was square shaped with two bastions at opposite corners; the rampart on each of the sides was about 30 metres and was garrisoned till the late 1700s.
