Welcome to Bolivia!
Welcome to La Paz! We'll wait for you at El Alto International Airport for the transfer to your hotel. Since there is about half oxygen in the air than at sea level, we recommend you to take the morning (unless you are arriving from a high altitude) for acclimatization and have some rest from your flight. In the afternoon we will have a short walk around the city to experience La Paz from the top to the bottom. Your guide will take you on the famous "Mi Teleférico '' cable car up to El Alto city and you will then walk to the center of La Paz, enjoying amazing views of the city. Then, you will take a micro or local bus to the heart of the urban markets area including the famous Witch’s Market and the San Francisco church. Later, we will return to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Tiwanaku Archeological Site & Lake Titicaca
Today we head out of La Paz en route to the community of Tiwanaku where we will visit the UNESCO-recognized archaeological site of the same name. Once there, we go back in time to the Tiwanaku culture visiting the museum and the ruins and exploring the main temples, including the Pyramid of Akapana, Kalasasaya, and the Gateway to the Sun. In addition, giant monoliths and figurative representations are scattered throughout the complex. We will also visit the Pumapunku ruins known for their huge stone structures that are still a mystery to archeologists today. After sharing a typical lunch in a local restaurant we will continue to the small fishing and farming village of Huatajata, right on the shore of Lake Titicaca. We'll visit the community’s small museum, focused on the totora reed boat-building, followed by an easy boat ride on the lake. Finally, we return to La Paz, after a wonderful excursion through time and across landscapes.

La Paz - Sajama National Park
After breakfast today, we will begin our adventures going to Sajama, Bolivia’s oldest national park. Sajama’s landscape is composed of a massive volcano ringed by a Queñua forest, the highest forest in the world and surrounded by tóla chaparral dotted with hot springs and alpaca. To reach Sajama we travel up and out of La Paz and through the bustling Aymara city of El Alto before continuing through the vast altiplano. On the way, we will see chullpas, a type of funerary tower from the Aymara culture, and stop in the church of Curahuara de Carangas called the “Sistine Chapel of the Altiplano” for the beautiful paintings inside the church. Once we arrive at the village, we will check in to our lodge before lunch and have time for rest. In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a trek to experience the Queñua forest, one of the most intact in the country. Afterward, we head back to the lodge for dinner and even more incredible views! Driving time: 5 hours with stops

It is an early start today as we leave Sajama National Park to continue even further to the south. On the way, we will stop in at the village of Coquesa and from there set off on a short walk to a viewpoint at the base of Volcan Tunupa where you can take in (slowly!) the immensity of the salar and the Andean sky. Once you’ve had all you can handle we will head back to the jeep before continuing to our final destination, Tahua village. Once in Tahua we will take care of check-in and have dinner before getting some well-deserved rest. If you have the energy, we’d be happy to arrange a night sky stargazing tour out on the flats, an amazing spectacle for our eyes and cameras. Driving time: 9 hours with stops

Finally, we stop at the famous train cemetery, full of rusting train cars that were once used to transport minerals and people to and from Uyuni. From this point, we will go to the airport for our flight back to La Paz city. As an alternative, we can choose to continue our adventure into the Eduardo Avaroa National Park to see the colorful lagoons, the flamingoes and enjoy different rock formations that look like they are from another planet.
