Arrive in Los Angeles and pick up the rental car. Depending on your time of arrival, begin the LA tour. Play “Pretty Woman” on Rodeo Drive, see your favorite celebs’ stars on the Walk of Fame, and admire the city and the Hollywood Sign from the Griffith Park Observatory. Rise before the sun sets to admire it, the colorful amphitheater of snow-capped hoodoos from Sunrise Point or Inspiration Point. Page Lake Powell / Monument Valley – 208km
This morning, you participate in a guided tour of Antelope Canyon, a site belonging to the Navajo Indians. It is a magnificent formation created by thousands of years of progressive erosion that you discover. Natural cathedrals, arches, narrow passages, perfect curves, … with unique colors. You then go to another Navajo site, Monument Valley, and its red-orange sandstone formations rising up against a far western setting that reminds us so much of the westerns of our childhood! Monument Valley / Tusayan – Grand Canyon National Park – 289km
This morning you explore Monument Valley, by car, along the road that crisscrosses between rock formations with evocative names such as Elephant Butte, the Three Sisters or Camel Butte. Stop at John Ford Point and Artist Point for unparalleled souvenir photos! You can participate in a guided tour, to consider especially if the road conditions, unpaved, are bad (optional). Then departure for the Grand Canyon. You take the Desert View Drive to enter the park. Along it many points of view on the canyon await you such Desert View Point which will give you a rather exceptional panorama on the Colorado River, Cedar Canyon, and on the plains of Painted Desert; the Lipan and Navajo Points from which you can admire, among others, Escalante Butte, Cardenas Butte, Pinal Point Cliffs or Wotans Throne! Depending on the time of day, take part of the Rim Trail that runs along the steep walls of the canyon, at the bottom of which flows the Colorado River and is punctuated with interpretive panels. Tusayan / Sedona – 172km
Before heading further south, continue your discovery of the Grand Canyon by renting fatbikes, oversized wheeled bikes, more suited to ice and snow! Departure then for Sedona. Take a break in Flagstaff and discover its historic district, tinged with relics from the heyday of Route 66. Wind along the scenic drive through the heart of Oak Creek Canyon, the red of the rock and the green of the oak and pine forests give you a view of the awe-inspiring landscapes that the region is famous for. Stroll through the “artist village” of Tlaquepaque, a pedestrian area of Sedona that looks like a Mexican village, home to numerous small craft shops, artist studios, charming cafés and good restaurants. Roll again to Red Rock State Park for easy hikes through landscapes full of contrasts. At the end of the day, travel to Red Rock Crossing where a spectacular vantage point of Cathedral Rock, the region’s most photographed rock formation, awaits you. As you choose, stroll around the city in the Roosevelt Row Art District, the hipster district of the city and a true center of art and culture, visit the Heard Museum dedicated to the First Nations of the American Southwest; close to the city, meet the iconic Papago Park. Explore its ocher mounds by crisscrossing one of its trails like the one leading to Hole-in-the-Rock, here again, discover a little treasure, the Desert Botanical Garden and its desert-specific vegetation! In the suburbs, stroll through the charming little streets of Scottsdale’s Historic Old Town or for the more adventurous, climb to the top of Camelback Mountain, an icon of the city that promises you magical views of the region.
